Our stay was not pleasant, did not merit 4 star and consequently it was not value for money.
Pros:

We slept well. The cleaner in the morning was helpful. Parking.

Cons:

The staff member on duty was somewhat uncommunicative and not very helpful. The property is gloomy, the decoration is scruffy and the stair carpets are very worn and appear dirty. Breakfast did not start until 08.30 so we had to leave without breakfast

Rothbury is great but lots of the little shops have closed, it's still a great place though...
Pros:

Check-in: This was straightforward enough at the bar and I was given my room key - it didn't however, dawn on me until later on though that I hadn't been given a key for the outside door in the event that we returned after closing, so I had to request this at the bar. Angus was able to sort this for me without any problem.
Room: Bed and pillows were super comfy. TV was good and the room was a nice size (King). Tea / Coffee was available but was not restocked over the two day stay and neither were the bins emptied. There were lots of electrical sockets which was great.
Bathroom: Nice size, the shower has really good pressure however, it kept falling out of its housing and it was super hot and really difficult to regulate the temperature, so I had to keep turning the water off. There was also only half a toilet roll on the holder upon arrival with no spares in sight. Shower gel and hand wash / hand lotion were available, these were really nice. Towels were of really good quality and size too.
Breakfast room: Breakfast room was great but the tea made from the constantly boiling water in the hot water dispenser was not great, fresh coffee was lovely though. Food and choice of food was good but the replenishment of cereals, juices, milk, new pots of coffee etc. were often only replaced when customers asked. Both days, really young staff were responsible for breakfast service and whilst they were really polite, the young lady didn't smile once...
The Pub and Beer Garden: These are great as always hence why we chose to stay at the Queens Head. That, and we'd previously stayed there a few years back.
Access after hours: I found this really difficult as the latch kept sticking but we managed to open the front door eventually.

Cons:

Although there was a fan heater in the room, it would have been good had there been a fan too, but with the window open, that helped keep the room nice and cool.

Cons:

Chef and staff looked Scruffy and were very ignorant especially the breakfast staff. Spent more time on her phone. There was nothing being filled up and everyone kept having to ask for simple breakfast drinks and condiments! The chefs clothing as he went to the cupboard to get another loaf of bread was absolutely filthy! Put us all of our breakfast which got left after realizing what the hygiene was like. I've attached pictures

It served its purpose. Staff definitely need to be on the ball. We were locked out of the hotel/pub.

Terrible stay away from the place.
Pros:

nothing

Cons:

the hotel carpets filthy, my room was as close to heaven as you will get, they should make it clear if you are in there rooms on the top landing as it was ridiculous the steps you need to clime. my room the radiator leaked over the bathroom floor and the towel radiator would not work. The bedroom radiator was on red hot and you could not control it. bedroom window sprang open andit was left wide open all night which meant approx 3hours sleep. because window would not shut. The toilet would not flush. The shower window blind would not operate. The hotel is a tip. breakfast was a joke. Stay well away.

Loved Rothbury. Disappointed with the accommodation
Pros:

The beds were comfortable

Cons:

The shower room was tiny, the taps were loose and turned the wrong way. The handle on the very small shower was hanging by a thread. There were 2 single beds rather than the one double we'd booked. The room was cold and in need of re-decoration.
