It had a very relaxed homely feel… lots of areas to chill out, like in the old panelled lounge bar, on the veranda or on the deck down by the river. Lively bar at night.
Breakfast service could do with being a bit quicker, albeit the full English when it arrived was top notch.
Lovely hotel with quirky touches. Lovely room decor and a comfortable bed
Noise throughout the day/night spoiled my stay, I could not sleep. It sounded like the noise was coming from generators running outside or the extractor fans from the kitchen. I should have also read the small print, as I was unaware that the restaurant/bar was closed on a Monday & Tuesday, so I had to venture out for a meal. I know this was no major hardship. however, perhaps a skeleton staffing crew could have been made available to provide a snack or beverage during this closed period!
There was a hamper in lieu of breakfast, and I hadn't realised that breakfast was not available on a Monday. I was a little disappointed, but didn't think that was a deal breaker. I was a little underwhelmed with the room, I have never been a fan of 4 poster beds and didn't really have a good night's sleep. The bonus for me was that Chad, who was there as we checked out, showed me rooms that would have been altogether more suitable . . . .I think the rooms Victoria and Elizabeth had views over the cedar lawns . . .so much more my thing, and better bathroom facilities!
The bed was not great, it felt quite claustrophobic. The bathroom was disappointing, particularly a very small shower . . . . I did mention when we arrived that I was keen to know what time breakfast was . . .and only learned then that it wasn't available. Next time I would appreciate a better room and maybe if I book directly this would be an option!
Unfortunat
ely we didn't get to enjoy a sit down breaky....we had a mini hamper. The noise transfer above room Louis kept me awake until the early hours, then to woken by Road traffic on a busy A road....facilities and room outstanding.
Lovely staff, efficient, friendly and amazing food!
The breakfast was very good so nice to have it served instead of a buffet.
Everything about it is the best of the countryside
Bit far from racecourse
Our room overlooked the garden down to the river. Quite beautiful.
A little music noise from the restaurant below but we're early to bed so it would be fine for later sleepers. It wasn't excessive.
Lots of character, lovely bar area with a roaring fire. Good food in the restaurant. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Really handy for Newmarket.
Nothing
I really love everything about the place.
Squeaky floors and uncomfortable bed in George room. I have stayed in Elizabeth room was much better.
It’s a nice old hotel / hall. Rooms all tastefully done
My room above the kitchen
