Clean tidy and pub is great

Miserable staff, alarm going off 5.30am saturday and again early one morning in the week.
I love the decor in the rooms - very warm and cosy. Could do with a hairdryer and a phone.
The taps in the bathroom were not set in securely so the water went all over the place. The worst thing was the fire alarm went off at 5 in the morning. I got ready, left the room and saw a large sign saying Fire Exit with an arrow pointing downwards and below that it said RECEPTION so I went downstairs. When I got there, there was only one other person there. I tried the front door - LOCKED! A member of staff followed shortly after this and explained the reason for the alarm. Steam from a shower. A man also turned up and unlocked the front door. We were then told the fire exit was in fact at the rear of the property. There were no instructions that I saw directing people in that direction! My point is: why are the front doors locked. In a real fire it could have meant the difference between life and death. The signage on Floor 1 needs looking at. I stayed in Room 103.

Friendly staff and good evening meals.
On this occasion the room had a " damp carpet smell". Assume it leaks from bathroom as door rotten at bottom.
My go to Hotel when working in the area. Rooms are clean, and spacious and the staff are always courteous and helpful.
Usually spotless and never had a problem before, but noticed the teapot was dirty from previous use. The sink was a little dirty as if someone had a shave in it and wasn't cleaned thoroughly.
The food was as tasty as ever in the restaurant, but what has happened to the portions? Had slow cooked steak and Ale pie, mash and veg. You are literally paying £16.50 for a pie! Could've put the meal on tea plate as the mash and veg was negligible. Literally left the place hungry and I'm not a big eater!
The pub attached was lovely and staff were very friendly. Very comfy bed.
The WiFi signal was appalling. I had some important work to review which I had to abandon. I set my alarm for 5 a.m. so I could get to the office 2 hours earlier to complete the work only to find the wifi signal was ok at this time. In other words - the signal is not fit for purpose if other guests are also using it. This was such a shame as everything else was great but I will not be able to stay here again.
Character 14th century inn with modern rooms in separate building at rear, the pub abd staff were all attentive, friendly and helpful.
Really nicely sdecorated good sized rooms with character and well appointed , just let down by minor points such as loose tap fittings, leaky shower screen, and lamp shades that were not fixed to the lamp! Nothing major, faults just took the edge off the room. It was also the same in the rooms Son was staying in so bit of tlc required.
