The location was very good. The staff friendly, helpful and polite. The room and bathroom very clean. I used the restaurant for an evening meal and it was very good. I ate in the bar but the finished with plates were not cleared.
I stayed at the start of a heatwave. There was a fan in the room without which I would not have been able to stay overnight. The room was like a very hot oven. Unbearably hot even with the fan so i had an awful night with very little sleep. So it is difficult to give an unbiased review.
The bed and pillows were comfortable.
I booked the room about five months ago, so not a last minute boooking. We were put in a disabled room, the bathroom had been adapted for someone in a wheel chair which is great if you are disabled. My husband is six foot and the basin and mirror were set for a seated position, It was impossible to shave unless you knelt. This is the main reason for the score a lack of thought by the owners when giving out rooms. You would'nt put a disabled person on the first floor so why would you put an able bodied person in a disabled adapted room.
Decor, comfortable bed, lovely room and great showers.
Breakfast was perfect.
Nothing.
Spacious and comfortable room.
Service from the kitchen was shambolic. We ordered crispy squid as a starter which wasn’t crispy. Half an hour later our starter plate hadn’t been cleared and no sign of our mains. I went to the bar to enquire and the lady behind the bar said she would inform the kitchen that we were ready for our main course. I asked if this was normal and that we wouldn’t get our mains until we went to tell them we were ready. 15 minutes later, still no food. Same conversation as before. A few minutes later the food arrived. The chips were overcooked, the fish cold and my wife’s salad small with asparagus that was woody.
The location
The breakfast
A really nice hotel and pub.
Great value for money and a nice breakfast too!
It was all great so nothing negative to add.
The location & some of the staff
Selection of food on offer and some staff didn’t want to be there
This is a pleasant, unexpectedly inexpensive Essex stopover, very handy for the M11. Owing, I think, to a mix-up over our dog (though I'd exchanged emails with the hotel on the subject, the fact we were travelling with a cocker had not been registered) we had an unusually large ground-floor room equipped for disabled visitors. The rooms are in a plain, modern hotel block behind the more traditional pub. The restaurant is popular and the food is fairly good, both dinner (a little bit slow) and the cooked breakfast. There is ample parking. The hotel staff loved the dog!
The Chef & Brewer internet service is a bit clunky. Otherwise, nothing in particular. This was just what we needed on our way to the Channel tunnel, 90 minutes away.
Ik ben heel netjes geholpen door de eigenaren, toen mijn vlucht werd geannuleerd. Zeer bedankt!
The bed was comfortable.
Almost everything. The “hotel” comprises rooms on ground, first and second floors. No lift. No porterage. No phones in the rooms to request service, maintenance, help or anything at all from reception. Basically you get a key and that’s it. The temperature at almost 30c made the room uninhabitable. The window opened only a fraction. No fan or aircon. Our toilet did not flush properly (revolting!!!) and our sink drained so slowly it was essentially blocked. Having reported it the second morning of our two night stay we were informed it has been repaired but ‘second floor room sinks drain very slowly’. So true. The so called repairs made no difference at all.
No bottled water is provided. The tea/coffee making facilities are fine.
. The TV worked. However (as stated in many reviews) the WiFi does not. Reception told us so as well. The hotel also seems to be in a 5g black spot. We could barely communicate at all. To get an Uber you had to leave the hotel and walk to the main road to get WiFi reception.
The hotel and pub are separate entities. The Pub Restaurant for dinner was atrocious. Many items on the menu were unavailable. Our first wine ordered was also unavailable but having ordered a replacement we were charged for both. The waitress was incompetent and we kept having to go and find her to get any attention for our table of 6. The food was ok
At breakfast the coffee machine was out of order. No chance of any coffee but ghastly coffee bags. No vegetarian or vegan sausages. Slow slow slow service.
Garden drinks service was almost non existent with tables laden with dirty glasses all the time.
The entire hotel and pub operations are a total disgrace. Avoid this property at all costs. It looks wonderful in the pictures but there it ends. Shame on you, Greene King.
Comfortable room, lovely outside seating areas, plenty of parking space, easy to get to from motorway.
Breakfast slightly disappointing. Very little choice on continental.
Hotel is always good though with the heat the room could of done with a proper fan
Breakfast with the pub, second visit in past year and 2nd disappointment when it comes to breakfast. First visit breakfast order had to be taken 3 times and it was a sub poor breakfast. This time we didn't even make it it when they had no coffee machine or toaster. When it's something they offer with the booking a room it's kind of an expectation it's a good experience.
Times past I've visited it's been exceptional but the last 2 visits are a hard no from a breakfast point of view for me
Nice restaurant and pub. Separate accommodation block well limited impact of busy beer garden.
Great location, very country hotel.
We stayed on a warn night, very hot in the rooms, no air.. None of the small lamps, or wall lights worked. On had big light in the room.
Easy access to Harlow
Not overly impressed with breakfast offering
Unable to refund an overcharge whilst we were still onsite
Rooms were hot and dirty
Staff excellent
Decor Starting to look a bit tired
No eggs or sausage available at breakfast
