Perfect place to wind down after a long day on the fell.
Pros:

We loved the old fashioned charm of the Inn. It is what it is, accommodation for walkers providing everything needed - a warm welcome, good food, hot water and comfortable bed. To update the Inn is an enormous task, perhaps impossible, but having good staff and providing good quality towels and linen shows the owners intend to try.

Great location. Very good evening meal and great staff.
Pros:

The staff are excellent. The young lady that greeted me when I arrived was exceptional.
She also served me dinner and later on drinks at the bar. Very knowledgeable, calm under the pressure of the busy bar and food service.
Evening meal was fantastic. Very impressed.
The lady who served me at breakfast was lovely too.

Cons:

I appreciate they are slowly doing the place up, however a little more attention to detail which doesn't cost anything would go a long way.

Lovely spot near Wast Water!
Pros:

Fantastic people all around, super friendly atmosphere! Had a wonderful time and will definitely be coming back. The beers were fantastic, the food was amazing (steak pie was particularly amazing) and the room was clean and comfy. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Cons:

That the pub isn't my regular ;)

We would eat there again, but not stay over.
Pros:

Location was amazing. Breakfast delicious. Great coffee, free flask fill before our walk. Dinner was lovely both nights.

Cons:

They ran out of gluten free bread. There was NONE for breakfast on second day despite prior request. The mattress really was awful. The room was tiny. My husband could not stand up straight in the bathroom. It was miniscule. The view was of the laundry and dumped equipment, old fridges, mattresses or something? Outdated, cobwebs, needs major update.

We'd go again.
Pros:

Location. Great pub with live music

Cons:

The rooms in the old hotel across the road from the pub are planned for renovation and need it. They gave us some free drinks to compensate for the renovations to the downstairs bar which was great.

Nice old traditional British pubs with own brewery in world beating location.
Pros:

The staff are great, very friendly, food is good old school British pub grub. Locals are friendly.

Cons:

We've been coming here for years and will continue to do so, but I wouldn't be being honest if I didn't mention that these are older buildings which are showing their age a bit & could probably do with a comprehensive refresh. We stayed in the Screes, lovely old stone floored bar, but upstairs floors are creaky, plaster cracks, old beds, that sort of thing. Our ensuite was tiny with the sink, shower and toilet all jammed in tightly! For us the location and all the other good stuff far outweigh these minor issues.

Excellent spot for a walking holiday in a beautiful location
Pros:

Great location and picturesque setting. Comfy single bed perfect after a day walking and a pint from the brewery in the bar. Great service at breakfast and a lovely home cooked breakfast set us up for a days walking.

Cons:

Bathroom was a bit basic but worked fine.
