meals were traditional pub food and the steak and ale pie was very good
Beer, location, food.
Bit scruffy, but it is what it is.
Great stay for 4 golfers🏌️👍
Location was great. Stunning scenery. Close to Scafell Pike and Wasdale for walking.
Food was amazing, served quickly and tasted great. Staff were friendly, approachable & helpful.
Beds were comfy and the bedding was clean, which was great after hiking in the cold all day.
The pub atmosphere was nice and friendly. Garden was cute and overall recommend if you're going hiking, as its only a short drive to Wasdale Head car park.
The room was very basic. Could be a bit cleaner. I found a used ear plug and a pair of dirty socks left in the room, the bathroom wasn't overly clean either with some used soap in the shower & grime on the shower head. The walls are also quite thin so you could hear other people coming and going quite easily. Our neighbouring rooms guests were a little inconsiderate making noise at 2am but that is not the hotels fault. Nothing major but could've been a little cleaner.
The staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful throughout my stay. The food is good and the service is friendly and pleasant. The location is excellent for anyone like me who walks the Lake District fells because of the access to Wasdale Head, very little.
Very little. A more powerful shower would been good after a day on the fells.
Great location for walking, The Evening Meal were OK, the breakfast was exceptional, and the lady that served us was great.
The Room, it was small with 2 single beds in it.
The shower was not OK, the water didn't soke away quickly, when having a shower you were standing in water all the time..Room 10
Good location, comfortable room but it did need some attention. Could describe as ‘tired’ staff were lovely and helpful.
Carpets on the stairs and landing were old and quite dirty. There was no mirror in easy access of a plug socket which women in particular require to dry their hair.
Great location , the bar and restaurant were lovely and friendly. Great staff too , thanks to Tom for going the extra mile
Can’t wait to see Screes finished , no issues caused though
Very enjoyable weekend in a Lakeland pub, basic but everything you wanted
Location
Building work and renovation was going on in the part of the hotel we were staying in
Note that rooms are not serviced for the duration of your stay so you end up with a collection of used plates, tea cups etc.
Heating is not on during the day which is ok unless you are staying in for a rest day and its cold
Staff and locals were very friendly. The location is amongst the loveliest spots on God's earth. The Hotel itself is ancient and reflects the fantastic history and culture of the UK. There is a brewery out the back and the beers were excellent.
Nothing at all, but visitors need to be aware that this is an older building so decor etc is 'well used' as is appropriate for a structure of this age; expect creaky floorboards! all of the facilities work though and are clean and modern.
