Hey , it’s not the Ritz but it’s under new management and has had a nice refurb and the rooms are the cheapest in Newcastle , 10 min wander into Newcastle and if you want a cheap room and somewhere to put your head down for a few nights this place ticks all the boxes
A review for football away fans ..not couples getaway.
Needed a cheap night away for stop over after watching football at St James Park.
Long journey back down south
We kind of knew what was awaiting,£30 pp
So we thought!!!
First positives - plenty of free street parking
Approx 15-20 min walk to St Jams Park & town centre.
Town centre lively and locals friendly.
Clean sheets & towels
Free Tea or coffee- I think in Bar.
Pool table & Bar
The Sketchy Bits😳
£10 deposit for room key- cash , not that a key was required as the lock you could have pushed through and opened as per photo, handle was hanging off other side.
Handed remote for TV for room-that’s a first!! And needed to return.
Headboards not attached
Stains on wall and ceiling
Shower not working- not that we would have attempted.
Lovely smell and noise from takeaway vent below our window.
Other footy lads staying said they could not bring drinks in from outside , only drinks from owners bar😂
Front door of hotel left open all night- super sketchy😂
If you want an adventure , and an away footy night ,not fussed about luxury or having locked doors - give it a go!
You will have a story to tell and maybe a win unlike us !
When we arrived to the hotel we were greeted by a very creepy manager, who demanded to see ID and stopped our friend from coming to the room with us!! (We are 3 girls in our early 20s) and mae her stay downstairs with him!!! The communal bathrooms were gross and very unhygienic!! And when I decided I couldn’t stay at that hotel that night, the friend who was staying invited her boyfriend to stay the night instead. As of this change we informed the manager, in which he demanded to meet her boyfriend! Otherwise he couldn’t stay!!! After asking wether it was a male or female stying first!!! We felt so uncomftable we checked out immediately and had paid the full amount without staying!!! HIGHLY AVOID.
We arrived at 5 pm to find the property locked and no one answered the bell or knocks at the door. The telephone number provided does not connect to anything. We had to go find another hotel at short notice. I believe this property to be some kind of scam.
The rooms are ok, that’s about all I can say positive, The staff seemed to be on drugs and quite intermediating. wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone it’s not in a nice area of Newcastle and when we arrived yesterday at midday the hotel wasn’t even open for us to leave our bags.
Absolutely disgusting hotel! 🤢I never write bad reviews as I’m not like that but this has to be said. First of all we had to wait around for 3 hours trying to check in to our hotel in the cold. We had rang to ask when someone would be there to allow us to check in and they said they would be there and then they never came. We tried ringing but never answered the phones again. When we finally got to check in 6 hours later they told us we hadn’t paid even though we had so we had to repay as they wouldn’t let us in and we had to pay a £10 deposit for the room key! And there was MOLD EVERYWHERE! 🤢
In our rooms there was Mold on the walls, the bed covers and the ceilings all around.
In our beds there was fleas and bed bugs we couldn’t even stay the night it was so disgusting 🤢
The bathrooms hadn’t been cleaned.
We then went to check out as we couldn’t stay there and I asked for my deposit back on the room key he had asked for as if we lost the key we would have to pay the £10 back.
I asked for this back and the man on reception started shouting at me and pointing his finger!!!
Avoid at all costs - do not ever stay here!!!
This place as absolutely horrendous, we were screamed and and shouted at because I allowed a friend to use our toilet he never once asked us politely. He was also screaming at other guests he wouldn’t let check in because it was 22:10 but if he hadn’t marched up the stairs screaming at us he would of been there for before check in
The ‘manager’ was verbally abusing everyone who was here with me (keep in mind we were all girls). There was a couple trying to check in who weren’t from the area but he refused them for being a couple minutes late, so they were walking round the streets of Newcastle at 10pm at night to find another hotel. Felt very Unsafe and would recommend anyone not to go here.
Myself and a friend had bookings here, but our arrival was delayed due to severe train disruption. We tried calling the hotel numerous times with no answer and left a text message explaining that we would be very late. Upon arrival the person at reception said we were past checkin time and could not stay and nor would we be able to check-in for our following night's stay either during normal hours. It was a very unwelcome experience, and we had to scrabble around late at night in an unfamiliar city to find new accommodation. The hotel has recorded us a no show and kept the entire payment. The hotel's policy towards late check-ins and attitute towards customer service is shocking poor. I strongly recommend to avoid this hotel.
Left Crying. Was VERBALLY ABUSED by the staff and denied check in because I arrive 1 minute after their check in closed. This man was screaming at other guests too, who were trying to help me get checked in.
HOW ON EARTH IS THIS PLACE STILL OPEN
This place is Horrendous
We booked this hotel for £24 each so very cheap and not far from the town centre, only bad thing is the KGB agent standing guard on door ways and shouting at people walking in the night asking for a sword fight and saying Ronnie Pickering jokes non stop like it must of been at least 17 jokes an hour. I believe he called himself the johnster l ( he told me to give them 5 stars who he wouldn’t let my family leave )
Was on a hen party and we stayed at this hotel. The hotel was really nice and clean. There was 4 of us sharing a room and the room was very spacious. John was amazing host as well at the hotel very nice, polite and welcoming, making sure we had taxi’s sorted for when we when out and when we were leaving the next morning to get to the train station. We all agree we would definitely come back again!
More like a hostel. Shower was more like a running tap. Drain smell continuously. No water on last day so couldn't get showered or flush toilets. Wouldn't be back. Staff member seemed quite aggressive. Not with us personally but with others.
Stayed here for 1 night as we were going to a concert. Yes okay its not in the best area of Newcastle but hey if you can get over that then great. Yes I admit we were a bit worried reading the reviews before staying that we actually looked at other places but to be fair we had a nice time. Yes its basic but its clean and they are helpful, we actually had a really great night sleep. What more could you want really its not the ritz its just a hotel/bar just outside Newcastle city centre with helpful staff. Thank you we enjoyed our stay
Had to book somewhere last minute for a work trip. Easily the worst place I have ever stayed and I’ve been backpacking in Australia. Unclean, the bedroom door didn’t shut or lock, I pushed the bed against the door and slept with the light on all night. Felt very unsafe in the area and if I had been travelling with my wife or family member I would have left immediately
If I could give 0 star I would give...they took away £90 from my account after 2 weeks my reservation was denied, claiming that my credit card was incorrect...then booking.com helped them to steal my money after 2 weeks with the same credit card number, which was been fine. No explanations,no refund. Avoid to book in this corrupted hotel.
The hotel it a basic establishment that provides a bed with the very basic of amenities. Ideal for a day or two stay in the city. The rooms are dated and a little tired but clean and serviceable. The bar has a good range of drinks, and as assessable as you would imagine, there are soft drinks available to purchase and free tea and coffee all day. What makes the experience is the wee man that runs the place John. He can't do enough for you and was on hand to rectify any issues (of which they were very few) and offer advice for dependable transport as well as local spots in the area.
Bargain hotel. I ended up getting this hotel for £47.39 on a Saturday night. It exceeded all expectations. Cheapest central hotel I could find that evening was £147 (with a private bathroom). Yeah its a 10 minute walk from town, yes there is no breakfast, it’s basic accommodation and no kettle in the room but what I got for for £47.39 was a clean room that looked quite freshly decorated, clean towels and bedding, hot shower with a couple of complementary toiletries (which I didn’t expect), hot free drinks downstairs (again I didn’t expect that) and the lovely host John who was not only helpful with taxis, local knowledge etc, but he also really cares about his guests and made us feel safe for the night, great man. This hotel has to be top marks based on its £47 price tag. If I needed to lay my head again after a night out I would book again, thank you
Booked this little place just as somewhere to put our heads for the night after going to an event in Newcastle, lovely and clean comfy bed and as much coffee and tea as you want, the guy in here really couldn't do enough for us and next time we come to Newcastle will stay here again
