The staff were very welcoming. Comfortable beds and the meals were very tasty. Lovely views from the hotel.
The door to the wet room was very stiff and difficult to move.
The public areas, reception, and bars were all very nice and it’s clear that parts of the hotel are being refreshed and updated.
The staff were welcoming, professional, and dealt issues immediately, which really made a positive impression throughout our stay. Breakfast was plentiful, and the waitresses were friendly and happy, creating a lovely atmosphere in the mornings.
Our original room was changed promptly after we found it to be very dusty. Second room also dusty however we sorted out ourselves, as had already unpacked twice.
A few practical issues that could easily be improved. The plug socket for the hairdryer was underneath and behind the dressing table in the Churchill Suite . No air conditioning during a hot bank holiday weekend, and the bathroom radiator had been left on, which we managed to turn off eventually. One set of towels provided initially, additional set was supplied quickly on request. TV small and limited channels.
The carpets on the stairs leading to the rooms could have done with a vacuum.
Fantastic view. Lovely location. Really helpful staff.
It’s a nice luxury place to stay, and breakfast was superb
Soft mattress, room could maybe do with updating at some point later in the year
Great location, very clean and tidy
Our room was extremely hot. Although there were windows there was no actual fresh air as the room was looked onto a function room. The hot water in the basin was scolding; this would have been easier to cope with if a mixer tap was in place.
breakfast was fine, room was fine
fan in ceiling had no off switch
Beautiful building and very clean
Nothing
Hotel accomadation staff and food all very good standard.
Excellent value for money.
Nothing.
Location was great with an excellent view over the amber valley
The food during dinner time was not available as they stopped serving at 7
Beautiful old building with lots of character and features. The outside seating area had amazing views of the valley.
Food was spot on.
The view of the valley is slightly obscured by a beach hedge which would be best reduced in height…
We were in the Churchill room with a lovely massive spar bath but the water at 9pm was only lukewarm and we had to boil the kettle multiple times. Dusty head board.
Service and breakfast
Very plush cozy. Attentive staff. Very relaxing in laid back surroundings.

Beautiful old building with wonderful historic features & maintained to a very high standard. Stunning scenery.
Busy road but I still slept very well.
AMAZING PLACE. 15th Century, LOADS of original features.
Atmosphere - calm, felt like one of the family
Rooms - Good size, bed really big, a bit too hard, but gave us a mattress topper when asked for one and extra pillows.
Value - good, really good breakfasts, service excellent.
Cleanliness - excellent, Housekeeping staff are really friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble.
Noise levels - low, a bit noisy with kitchen staff on break, but bearable.
I have NO hesitation to recommend this hotel to anyone; they even have a shoe cleaner in the lobby, and a well with water in it! Felt like part of the family, nothing was too much trouble, good old-fashioned welcoming and service. Really enjoyed our stay. Not too far away from Chesterfield and Alfreton, the road systems are good. Farm shops are there as well. In the country but not isolated, amazing views and walks. LOVED it. Would go again anytime. Staff remember who you are and remember what you have said to them. LOVED it, recommend it to our friends and family.
