Just ok. Not exceptional.

Great hotel. Friendly staff. Super breakfast choice . Lovely pools. Highly recommended. We had a view over the pools and the sea, we could hear the waves all night. Wonderful

We had an eight day break at the Pestana Alvor South Beach hotel, which we hugely enjoyed. The location is amazing, with an incredible beach right in front of the hotel and in easy walking distance to the town of Alvor. We have absolutely no criticisms of the hotel. Our room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The ambiance of the hotel was calm and we certainly slept well with no nighttime disturbance.
The staff were uniformly polite and helpful. By the middle of our stay they knew what coffee we liked at breakfast and brought it to us without us asking. Without any hesitation we can recommend the hotel.

Excelente atendimento e quarto muito confortável.

Great vibe with lovely people and pools. It has excellent scenery with different walks, along the beach, near the boats and along the board walk as well as others.

Das Hotel bzeichnet sich durch das besonders freundliche Personal in allen Bereichen aus.
Die Lage des Hotels ist traumhaft, man muss nur durch den Poolbereich gehen und ist direkt am Strand.

Another wonderful stay at the Pestana Alvor South Beach hotel.
The location is fantastic leading directly onto an amazing long sandy beach with a boardwalk leading to the harbour and town of Alvor.
There are many restaurants available from the boardwalk enjoying wonderful sunset views with Windsurf and O Luis being our favourites.
While the town has great restaurants with a lively but chilled evening vibe.
The hotel itself has a nice relaxed atmosphere which has it’s affect as soon as you walk in.
The Suite rooms with Sea View are very comfortable enjoying beds with a view!
All of the hotel staff from the manager, front office to housekeeping are the best, being friendly and helpful.
All in all a great hotel which has drawn us back year on year since we found it in 2017!

My husband and I have been visiting pestana south beach from 2018 .
The changes we encountered this year have been very poor

Cons first

Orange fridge used to have a very good selection of yogurts , butter and margarine pads this fridge now holds 3 bottles of milk.
Butter and margarine pads have been replaced with one block of salted butter and one unsalted which sits out at bread station uncovered with a knife for all to help themselves very unhygienic flys coming in front open doors.
Yogurts 4 individual pots sitting in a clear bowl filled with water at sweet bread/pastry table.
Why make this change??
Hash browns could have been used to play hockey they were that hard. Bacon was very well cooked on several mornings.
Sausages were very pink on several mornings .
In previous years a large toaster was available this has been replaced with 2 smeg 4 slice toasters this is not enough for the amount of people having breakfast.
Again can this be explained??
A reduced breakfast menu salmon was served at one time this has been stopped lots of pastry options at breakfast . I don’t know anyone who eats buns/pastrys/cake for breakfast. Omelettes and fried eggs available on request the only fresh alternatives available.

On arrival

Was offered a drink of orange or wine I had asked for a glass of coke or water and was told no this is all that was available.
Was checked in by a young male member of staff who was very aloof and rude I asked twice where my room was located and twice he answered round the corner…… really what was that all about ???

It was only when my room was ready he told me it was behind reception. Very rude and unprofessional.
I have to say the bar staff were very pleasant /friendly/helpful.

Room

When we eventually got into our room I had requested 2sun loungers for the veranda again I was told no I couldn’t have this as my room didn’t come with sun loungers just table and chairs yet rooms on either side of mine had 2 sun loungers I eventually got these after some arguments at reception and also to be told I hadn’t stayed in the hotel before…vey unnecessary am sure all they had to do was check the computer for previous stays I found this very unprofessional.
Beds very uncomfortable this is something that keeps coming up in reviews same being said for new sun loungers around pool area as these are very worm also an ongoing issues ref sun shades/umbrellas needing replaced.
I was constantly asking for 2 face cloths when towels were being replaced 1 face cloth was given for two people???

Pros

Very close to beach and alvor town with lovely
Restaurants ,that’s were the pros end
Needless to say that’s us finished with returning to this hotel prices have went up as expected from Covid however you are getting less for what your paying for.
Bar prices are to expensive which is probably one reason as to why little activity at bar area in the evening. 30€ for a jug of sangria????

Bruno I wish you all the best for the hotel but you really need to get this hotel back to where it once was.

On departure we checked out was not asked how was your stay was just told you have no bill to pay.

Reception staff reallly let the hotel done especially when as I have already said bar staff/Domestic staff all very pleasant/friendly/professional.

The property was beautiful! However the double bed was hard as a rock! I had to fold over the mattress cover t get some comfort. The next morning I complained and they put another mattress cover on bed that helped.

Very quiet in October. Nothing nearby, but a 20 minute walk into Alvor along the unlit boardwalk. Bar closed up at 11 but hardly anyone there in the evenings- zero entertainment.
Breakfast was very good with an excellent range of fresh fruit, cheese, ham, breads and a hot food greasy selection.
The adjacent SeaDeck restaurant was overpriced and not particularly good. I wouldn’t go back.
Alvor has some very good restaurants with fish being the main offering , and they do it so well.
Pool facilities etc at the hotel were good. A quiet hotel with 3 small pools and not difficult to get a few loungers.
This hotel appeals to the more mature guest in October and is a quiet spot. It has direct access onto the beach and lovely walks to the caves in one direction and into Alvor along the boardwalk in the other. If you want a quiet spot next to the beach with a little town nearby then I would recommend.

This hotel is in a superb location a few minutes to the beach and lovely 15minute walk along the broad walk into Alvor.
However the hotel is dated The pool area needs attention as the sun loungers need replacing and there is a lack of sun shades. Often in the morning the decking has not been brushed from the day before with empty glasses and dishes left around. The hotel does not really have a restaurant. The sun deck is opening in the evening but it is has no atmosphere really an expensive snack bar with plastic chairs. One has to walk back to the hotel in the dark as there is no light on the broad walk to go through the locked gate to the hotel grounds from this sun deck
The room was not really a suite it is a family room with a covered trundle bed in a separated area. There is very little hanging space in the bedroom and none in the adjoining room.
The bed was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in a very hard mattress this was not helped by the fact the bedsheet was never smoothed out.
There was plenty of choice at breakfast but to have eggs cooked fresh you have to find staff to request it. The many stations for different foods would be better served if crockery was at the station rather than under 1 shelf at the other end The crockery needs to be more accessible. It would also be pleasant to have a light on the balcony so one could sit out in the evening.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
