Great location and staff were friendly.
Rooms are very small a we had a lot of mould in the shower room and damp patches under the window. Value for money was poor.
The location is perfect and the staff pleasant. The room (the Minster) was decorated in an appropriate style which was nice and the room was comfortable enough.
I would have hoped for a bit more for the price. In particular, though this didn't concern me, half an hour for breakfast between 9 and 9.30 seems pretty mean.

We love this place!
Didn't have breakfast
Didn't like how they change £10 to store our bags.never had that ever before it's always free .
Just what we were looking for, a place where you get to meet the locals, have entertainment (a live band on Fridays) and be close to the city centre. The bar staff were very welcoming and friendly, and we had a great time getting to know them and the locals. The room was lovely and the bed was comfy and instead of room numbers the rooms are named, ours was called 'The Grand Old Duke of York'. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for the same things as us. We had an amazing time here, thank you and hopefully we will be back in the future.
having to pay for bag storage.
Bar area was good, breakfast enjoyed it
There was no heating on at night or morning. On arrival the barman was unfriendly and wouldn’t let us leave our bag there. Had to pa £8 at the luggage drop. Black mould on the bedroom wall. No hot water in the morning
Location and breakfast
Room small for price paid and pillows not comfy
Place was clean locals were great breakfast was good
Booked for Friday and Saturday they had live band on Friday night it's was very noisy till midnight but after was okay.
Will stop again but mid week when no band's on
The full English breakfast was really good served on hot plates which is a must with me along with quality ingredients which when served formed a breakfast to set you up for the day
The bar below has a band on every Friday which can be heard throughout the rooms above very loud which went late
Our 3rd time at the Bootham Tavern and another great stay. Excellent location too
Nothing. Can't fault it
Great location for center of York, lovely breakfast, staff were friendly ,bed was comfy ,room was nice size
Only a small thing one curtain was hanging off the rail
The rooms was nice and clean! Staff was nice too!:)
The breakfast is served super late! 9-9:30! At 9:00 I'm normally done with everything, ready to conquest the world!;D I've been to many places but 8:00 or sometimes even 7:30 is the hour when breakfast normally starts... really disappointed with that, didn't even bother to wait that long...
On Friday night the live music session in the pub was just horrendously loud! I know - Friday, live music - I do like it too - but not that loud! Don't know how the people inside the pub could have stand it! My brain was exploding - and I was in the room! 😵💫🤯
Great location and comfy bed
Baffled by the positive reviews. The price of this place is daylight robbery. I booked expecting a boutique b&b above a tavern when in reality, it is just a local boozer with some rooms upstairs. The room was very small and had black mould visible on most of the walls and smelled like damp.
The pub had live rock music on directly below our room until 11:30pm on one night which was so loud it was vibrating the room. Impossible to sleep through even with noise cancelling earphones. We might as well have been at a concert. Once this was finished, there was karaoke until 1:30am. The following night, there was karaoke again until 1:30am. None of this is advertised at the point of booking and when we went downstairs to speak to staff about this, we were told there was nothing they could do.
The flush on our toilet got progressively weaker across our 3-day stay to the point it couldn’t even flush two squares of toilet paper and the toilet door didn’t completely close which was extremely unfortunate when one of us got food poisoning.
The breakfast is fine. Bog standard full English (or several derivatives of a full English). Would have been nice to have some fresh fruit or yogurt or something to change things up. Breakfast is also only between 9-9:30am which is oddly restrictive and probably quite late for most people on a city break.
Our room was directly across from an office building and they could see straight in so had to keep the curtains closed most of the time.
Would not recommend this place and certainly would not go back. I’m sure there are much nicer places for the same price and will allow for you to go to bed and be able to sleep at a reasonable time.
