Wajonata Sumba

Shirley. Seclusion. Serenity.
It was a home away from home for our family of 5 (3 boys 5,7 & 9).
Authentic Sumba experience living among the fishing communities that live along the coast.
Did not see one other tourist the entire week we were there and we walked for kms in each direction.
Heldeem was our excellent on site tour guide (10 year old who spoke little/no English) and he joined in with the boys teaching them how to catch crabs and point out different wildlife. Thank you Wajonata for everything.

Great location with a nice beach to yourself and lovely people

The host Ibu Sherly was amazing. So flexible and attentive to our family of 5 and accomodating breakfast for when we came back from the surf. Eggs on toast (fried and boiled eggs) as well as the mie goreng (fried noodles) was a real hit at breakfast. We also got bananas with breakfast. One day they must have run out of bananas and we got papaya. That so yummy too. I would pay extra for papaya which we did ask for at dinner as well. So yum too!

The mie goreng (fried noodles) with vegetables and egg was really good. Full of vegetables. For dinner we also liked the opor ayam (Chicken coconut curry) and the fried fish (ikan bakar) with a plate of mixed vegetables (sayuran campur). Also the chicken soup (sop ayam).

So lovely right on the beach. We took our bean bags and sat out on the beach at sunset. So quiet and beautiful. And we didnt have any problems with mosquitos inside our hut and didnt need the nets. Maybe depends on the season. We were here in early December. But you need insect repellant for outside because of sand flies so pack that and you will be fine. Also bring lots of sunscreen becauae itnis so expensive in Indonesia.

Surfed out the front at the reef and at the pier. Local knowledge of surf from near by Australian who lives their Pak Rodney and his wife Ibu Netta. Lovely people.

Even on the last day because we had to leave very early before breakfast. She gave us a bag of boiled eggs the night before with a bunch of bananas to take with us. So thoughtful and generous.

Amazingly good value accommodation for the area. We went the bigger huts which were fully enclosed and really nice beds. They both have a queen and a single bed in them. Highly recommend this place. We had a hire car from Tambolaka airport (without driver) for our entire stay.

Belle surprise !

Après un accueil chaleureux de Shirly nous avons découvert notre bungalow. Il est très bien décoré, avec une salle de bain spacieuse semi-ouverte vers l’extérieur. De la terrasse, équipée de bains de soleil, on a vue sur la mer à moins de 100 m.

La cuisine de Shirly est simple mais gouteuse. Excellent poulet à la sauce coco mais bien d’autres spécialités indonésiennes dans le menu.

La plage, pas de surprise, comme partout en Indonésie la marée rapporte les plastiques, pour autant, pas plus que sur d’autres plages de Bali. A la demande nous avons pu profiter du Kayak dans le lagon. Le soir venu magnifique ciel étoilé.

On a pu apprécier la tranquillité et la proximité avec les pêcheurs d’algues locaux. On est loin du tumulte de Bali, et c’est ça dont nous avions besoin. On aurait voulu prolonger, mais l’emploi du temps ne le  permettait pas.

On recommande à ceux en quête d’aventure.

Ein absolut magischer Ort – als wäre die Zeit hier einfach stehen geblieben! 🌴✨ Der kleine Bungalow liegt direkt am Strand, umgeben von Natur und mit einem Blick aufs Meer, der einem den Atem raubt. Morgens wacht man mit dem Rauschen der Wellen auf und abends leuchtet der Sonnenuntergang in den unglaublichsten Farben.

Das Highlight war der frischeste Fisch, den ich je gegessen habe – direkt aus dem Meer auf den Grill, einfach perfekt zubereitet! 🐟🔥 Und als wäre das nicht genug, konnte man beim Schwimmen tatsächlich Schildkröten im klaren Wasser beobachten. 🐢💙

Wer Ruhe, Authentizität und echtes Inselfeeling sucht, wird diesen Ort genauso lieben wie ich. Ein Stück Paradies, das man am liebsten geheim halten möchte! 🌺🌊

Deco mignone

Shirly est vraiment accueillante et souriante, elle cuisine bien. Le bungalow est confortable, nous avons très bien dormi. On est bien placé près de la plage. Nous avons pu louer un scooter directement au resort.
On se sent presque seul au monde. Il faut aimer entre en pleine nature.

Lokalita ubytování je poměrně daleko od hlavní asfaltové cesty. Ubytování samotné je velmi hezké a nachází se přímo na břehu moře ve velké zahradě/parku. Vybavení je čisté a plně odpovídající. Bohužel na nás při příjezdu zapomněli, tak nám check in trval o něco déle. Plně nám však náš stres z cesty a čekání ve tmě uprostřed ničeho vynahradil personál, který připravil naprosto skvělou večeři.

Close to nature

We were in the open space villa. We loved the room proximity to the beach, perfect! Serli the manager was so kind, and cooked amazing food with reasonable price. The hotel is very remote but we were well looked after, so all was good. Loved the remoteness ❤️❤️. Good strong wifi 👍

We really loved the Robinson experience.
The bungalow was really great, big space, charming.
Wifi is really nice and the food was good.
We enjoyed to take the scooter and discover around.

Piece and quite, simple life

Secluded location, great wifi, ideal getaway to focus on getting things done. It felt very peaceful when weather was settled. A great escape from the whole world being in a corner for south east of Sumba. Beach was quiet. Shirly, who made the meals and cleaned, was very sweet.

My family of 5 is from Texas, USA. We have spent many years living in Central Java. 2020 we moved back to Texas and had been long awaiting an adventure trip to Sumba. We spent high dollar in west Sumba and wanted to go low key in east sumba. Yes the villa is simple but the beach and local finishing/sea farming village was amazing. Shirli who lives on site is a true blessing. We left feeling like family! Hope to be back. Godspeed.
