An amazing collection of ecliptic memorabilia showcasing the history of this historic hotel and town. Everywhere you look there is something different to enjoy. The staff were friendly, informative and rightly proud of their town. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were available in the dining room infront of a copy open fireplace. The rooms were comfortable and clean with an upstairs guest lounge with complementary tea, coffee and cereals along with an amazing massage chair for relaxing at the end of the day. Only a short drive from Arthur's Pass it is highly recommended for anyone looking for something a little different.
Liked everything.
Great historic hotel. Room was beautifully decorated for its era. So quirky and filled with history. Hostess was awesome.
All good.
Not much
Almost everything, the decor was eclectic lots of taxidermy and old fittings.
The bin in our bedroom had not been emptied from the previous guests. There was old toothbrush in the shower, dead flies on the window sill, the sheets were questionable as to whether they were clean and the bed was uncomfortable.
Les gens sont extraordinaires !
Rien
The decor was eclectic and highly entertaining. A real destination stopover with historic landmarks all around and incredible staff who make you feel so welcome. Food was excellent, especially west coast whitebait. A perfect stop for anyone curious about the old west coast or old school kiwiana.
Choice stop.
Only stayed one night.
Loved the old style & its location. And Lester who ran the place was legend.
It’s quaint & a bit strange.
It’s eccentricity. Doing something different in a homogenised world!
This hotel was so quirky and interesting. Lester The owner was so welcoming and has a great sense of humour
We loved arriving in the evening with a fire going, lots of conversation in the dining area.
The food was hearty and the wine most welcome !
Our bedroom was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast cereal , tea, instant coffee and Milo were available.
It felt as if we were in a movie set for a turn of the century movie.
Loved everything. Don’t expect flash it’s a down to earth experience
The period setting, and getting to chat with the owner ,(we had a lot in common)
Little to dislike
