A decent budget hostel close to a big shopping centre
Pros:

It is a budget hostel in a renovated Soviet-age building. Customers are most likely working-class people, among them mostly russian and ukranian speaking. You can get a good vibe of a Soviet epoch's community living. Staff is friendly and forecoming. Free unguarded parking in the backyard, you just park along the line of other parked cards in the yard. Family room with private bathroom is spacious enough.

Cons:

Maybe a bit too little space in the toilet when seated on the toilet, facing right the shower cabin. In general, communal living is an interesting experience but not for everyone. Just know what to expect.

A good hostel / hotel with thesense of communal living of the past
Pros:

Same as our earlier review. Very colourful residents with mainly latvian, russian and arab languages. Sense of communal soviet living at its best: men repairing their car in the parking lot until midnight, some sitting in general area and discussing politics and life.
As a good thing some rooms are being renovated at the moment: new floors, beds. So, our room this time was even better than last time.

Cons:

This type of hotel is definetely not for everyone but we felt safe and it was good for another 1 night stayover during passing Riga/Latvia.
