Unique old style hotel with original features, old marble staircase and decorative metal handrails and mirrored painted screens in the hallway.
Unfortunately the rooms completely let down the stylish entrance hall. The original hostal has been recently taken over by a hotel group, and there has been no redecoration works undertaken on the rooms prior to letting with booking.com.
These should not have been allowed to go on the listings with booking.com until renovation and redecoration had been completed.
Needed a little update
Now this is tough. We hated our room but the staff were very kind and accommodating to our needs, we got to switch to the other room halfway around. I guess Nerja is just expensive because I expected much better for this price.
The room on the lower floor was just depressing. It looks out to a parking lot, has a patio but why would you want to sit next to ppl's cars? The lights are harsh, there is no natural light, the sofa barely fits one person. We couldn't get the TV to work. I would recommend taking the room on the upper level if anything. The pool is so far away we never went there. It belongs to the residential building the rooms/suites are located in.
Wifi connection is not stable
No breakfast facility, beds and pillows very comfortable, location was a little further out of town for my taste but a couple of decent cafes/restaurants within easy walking distance, shower was excellent - powerful with plenty hot water, balcony ok if you are a size 8 ! All in all immaculately clean throughout
No facilities at all, not what it says on the packet as in lovely tapas and making new friends with felllow travellers. There was no one there when I arrived with a notice on the door saying reception was at hotel down the road which by all accounts have taken the Allegra over. So no food, no bar and I didn’t see another person for 10 days of my stay. The beach is a gradient too far to get home from and the swimming pool available was nice and clean but no sunbeds and no inflatable’s allowed (this only applied to foreigners as far as I could see as the Spanish people did not have a problem with the inflatables police) so quite uncomfortable round the pool
Really nice apartments and shared pool, with plenty of restaurants, beaches and shops around. Our apartment was larger than expected, with great facilities including gas hobs, fridge/freezer and private balcony with beautiful views of the mountains.
We were very excited about this hotel as it has a good score and the pictures looked great. However we had a very bad experience and many issues:
- First surprise, this hotel has been bought by another hotel and has no reception, so you have to walk few minutes to the other main hotel to do the check-in and then go back to Hostal Hostal Alegre, all under 45°C and with your luggage. We felt like the “non-priority cheap option” hotel compared to the other one.
- Then, once in the room we were surprised as we expected a bigger room and payed for the highest option available. The room was small and didn’t match to what we saw in the pictures. The balcony… oh the balcony… very dirty and not cleaned for months I guess.
- And then another surprise: the swimming pool is actually NOT in the hotel, it’s also a walk away in the middle of a residential area, where you actually swim with many families and kids. Horrible.
- And in case that’s not enough: WE HAD NO FREAKING WATER for 2 days knowing that it’s summer and we’re in beach area. The reception was asking us to go to the other hotel to shower. Can you imagine the nightmare when traveling with a disabled person? They said it’s the municipality but all other hotels and places around had water. We called. Crazy.
- You want a bonus? The hairdryer literally exploded at first use (when we was water back).
Even though the reception guys were nice and available, but we had a bad experience.
Brilliant hospitality and a beautiful room in an easy access location to both the town and Burriana. Cannot believe we haven’t stayed here before and definitely will be staying again.

Check-in was made super easy even though we arrived on a public holiday and after hours. Our room was cleaned every day and our room was equipped with all the amenities we needed!
