Westmoreland Hotel, Tebay Services
Pros:

Ambiance, open fire, peace and quiet, sensibly equipped and comfortable room, delicious food. Lovely moorland outlook.

Cons:

The bedding had a slight smell of dog, even though it was a non-pet room. It reminded me of the dog we used to have (same smell). I know it must be difficult laundering bedding from Pet and Non Pet rooms together, but the bedding should not carry unwanted odours.

The booking system is suspect. When trying to book direct I was quoted a higher price than Booking.com. Having agreed the charge to my credit card the booking system added £49.99 "Management charges" after the agreement had been finalised. I immediately cancelled the booking but it took around 3 weeks to receive a refund.
I am surprised that an organisation that prides itself on its high ethical standards could sink so low as to con people in this way.

Fantastic facilities
Pros:

Friendly and very nice food

Cons:

The staff at breakfast were very dismissive and not very organised which is very unusual and not the normal

The hotel was very busy and the buffet table not topped up I had to ask for orange juice as it was empty and it took ages to come along with the pot of tea like I said this is very unusual

Exceptional and have already recommended to other people
Pros:

We arrived about 30 minutes early but were made very welcome by check in staff. Only had to wait 10 before the room was ready. Lovely room. Even though it’s just off M6 there was absolutely no noise from it. We didn’t eat there as we were going to see a show in Kendal and left early the next morning.

Cons:

Nothing. Car park only a few steps from hotel. All the staff we met were exceptionaly polite and helpful. Nice comfortable bed. Only very very small thing the tv in room was tiny but saying that view was lovely and we weren’t in room that long

Perfect pit-stop on the way north.
Pros:

Such a nice vibe, and very very dog-friendly.

Cons:

The sheet was not big enough for the bed, the mattress was exposed at the pillow end. But otherwise perfect!

Great staff, greata service, great food, warm room but POOR bathroom
Pros:

We had a great visit and thought the staff were all attentive, helpful and friendly.
Our room was comfortable but the bathroom was in need to a thorough upgrade

Cons:

Bathroom floor was very cold and would benefit from thin layer of insulation , an electric matt and over laid in tiles or marmoleum. Radiator on bathroom wall not powerful enough to drive off coldness/dampness.
Tiling on lower walls adjacent to door cracked and discoloured. Door surrounds affected by wet (rot)-paint peeling etc.
The bath bpanel had clearly been kicked about and showed itself out of plumb and damaged. The hardboard panelling behind the wc had been cut (presumably to repair the cistern?) but no attempt to tidy up and repaint...
This seriously let down the look of the room!!!
