We recently had a stay at the Commodore hotel in Instow. A lovely sea facing view with Appledore opposite offers beautiful sunsets. All of the staff including Gary, Zoltan and James are very helpful with nothing too much to ask. Good location for local intetests and to explore afield, we recommend the Commodore to anyone who would like a relaxing few days / weeks. Thank you.
This is a very special place, we only live 30 minutes away but you don’t have to go far to relax. All accommodation very clean and tidy offering good value. The staff very welcoming and helpful. We had a bedroom overlooking Instow and it’s so beautiful. We will be back, even though we live just up the road!
Superb location elevated hotel overlooking the beach with superb views. We honestly felt that we were on the continent with the beautiful weather and the situation of the hotel .
Gary and his team were superb hosts .Gary helped us with our luggage and offered us complementary tea every day when we returned from our travels in the area.
The food is excellent different choices each evening as we preferred to eat in the hotel instead of running around .
The hotel is spotless and the staff are always on hand to offer advice or help.
Thanks to Olivia also who loaned me a charger for the week as I had left mine behind in Cornwall.
Thanks to Sue also on reception for her help.
All being well we would like to return next year. Thanks to the Commodore for a great experience in their family run hotel .
We loved this hotel so much - its location with views across the estuary from our bedroom - the cheery welcome and helpful friendly staff - the breakfasts and evening meals - that we have booked a return visit in September. Enough said.
This hotel is perfect. The location is right on the front of Instow beach so perfect for a stroll with kiddies and dogs. The views are breathtaking. The rooms are modern, clean and have everything you need like kettle, tea/coffee, hairdryer. The staff are incredibly helpful and their attention to detail was spot on. We travelled with a 4 yo and a newborn and the staff made sure we had plenty of space at breakfast and dinner. The food!!! Oh my days….delicious breakfast with a selection of cereals, fruit, juices and a fabulous cooked breakfast. We stayed for dinner too and it was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had! The only thing that made things difficult was no lift but we managed. All in all a fantastic hotel, they need a photographer to take internal pictures as it’s just beautiful. We will be going back
Light and airy. Very clean and peaceful
The dinner menu was very good but would liked option to just have one course rather than all three.
It is always a treat to stay at The Commodore at Instow. It is a family run hotel and a very special place taking pride in the service it offers to its guests. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The rooms are traditional and comfortable. Some have fabulous views of the Estuary. We had a lovely stay and enjoyed dinner in the restaurant.
Great stay The Commodore, Instown.
From the moment we arrived to celebrate my friends birthday the staff were wonderful.
We had a lovely meal and even though one of my friends didn’t want what was on the set menu she was offered an alternative choice with no fuss or bother at all.
The sunset from the terrace was amazing.
Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.
Fantastic staff and service and a beautiful setting.
My wife and I have been visiting the Commodore Hotel since it was recommended to us as a suitable venue for our Diamond Wedding anniversary.
As you turn off the Marine Drive into the grounds after a three hundred mile drive, the neat lawns, the large mature, weathered trees and the fresh whitewashed building; perhaps that is a northern term, welcome you.
This welcome is extended in the the building, you are struck by the light, immaculately clean appearance as you are shown to your room, a mirror of your first impression.
The real welcome are the staff each and everyone, this is a family business and it doesn't take long for you to feel part of the family. My wife and I are both disabled and everything is done to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
The menu has something for all tastes.
Within a short distance there are many interesting places to explore, but it is equally appealing to sit in the lounge or your room and watch the ever changing scene of the tidal River Torridge.
We have booked for next year.
A very friendly greeting and an offer of tea and biscuits on arrival, our bags were taken to our room.
A beautiful hotel in a fabulous position, we had a seaview room with balcony, all very comfortable
All the staff were friendly & helpfull
Not a huge menu for dinner but enough of a choice and well presented.
We’ll be back
Breakfast was excellent as was the location
Good location. Lovely helpful staff.
Rooms quite small and cluttered.
A most delightful hotel, perfectly positioned on the waters edge, spotlessly clean, staff friendly and helpful, very accommodating to one of us in ensuring, because of an allergy, no garlic or onion in the meals! All in all, one of the best hotel based holidays we have enjoyed. If I had just one little tip for the restaurant, in this hot weather it would have been nice for the water on the dinner tables to have been iced.
Very happy and homely atmosphere.Lovely room with wonderful views, very clean everything thought of for guests comfort.Service was excellent, nothing too much trouble.Food excellent.Looking forward to our next visit.
We have stayed before so knew what to expect. We anticipated a warm welcome, wonderful location/views, excellent food and friendly staff. Our expectations were met with Gary's personal service a particular highlight.
The room and bed were small, which was OK for a short stay.
Our 5th visit and as always the service was outstanding. The views are spectacular , rooms spotlessly clean and staff can't do enough for you. An old fashioned seaside hotel, absolutely perfect.
