A gem by the sea with friendly staff and great food
Pros:

We have stayed before so knew what to expect. We anticipated a warm welcome, wonderful location/views, excellent food and friendly staff. Our expectations were met with Gary's personal service a particular highlight.

Cons:

The room and bed were small, which was OK for a short stay.

Beautiful sunsets
Pros:

Beautiful location and views. Sunsets are incredible. Hotel clean, staff very polite and helpful
Shower curtain in the bathroom is dated. Although plenty of hot water, low pressure made the shower inadequate.
Bar all closed up by 10 one night, night porter could only provide bottled beer

Lovely location, disappointing room.
Pros:

Fabulous location, with jaw dropping views from our room

Cons:

Our room was described as cozy, a better description would be cramped. The bathroom in particular was tiny, if you were cleaning your teeth and your partner came in they knocked you into the sink! However the worst part was the shower/bath. It worked off the taps, to be honest it’s the poorest set up we’ve used in years. It was old, worn out, inefficient, and awkward to use. In fact the whole bathroom was dingy and cried out to be refreshed.

Welcome Home
Pros:

This is the fourth time we have visited The Commodore and received the traditional warm welcome from the Woolaway family; it really does feel as though one is 'coming home'. Our room - one of the Marine Suites - was extremely comfortable and well-provided with a stunning view out over the estuary towards Appledore. The meals were of the usual high standard and are clearly cooked to order. in all, another excellent stay; we will be back next year!

Nothing not to like. Adam & Sophia
Pros:

Our visit was for 3 nights and took in a Falklands Veterans charity YOMP. Location could not have been better and the hotel has a classic traditional sea side quality ambiance now hard to find. We had room 16 with a sea view and veranda including furniture and lovely to sit out in the sun. Beds are comfortable and the room spotless and quiet as asked for. A nice dining room for breakfast and dinner served by attentive staff and a pleasant experience. Sitting areas outside the hotel and grounds very good with open views. There is nothing not to like about the hotel and made to feel very welcome. As for value, its a positive change to get what you pay for and a little more and this reflects on the service and experience. One of the nicest hotels we have stayed in and would definitely return and recommend.

Devon hospitality at its best
Pros:

We has a family have travelled to Devon for ever and never knew this area existed was casually recommended by a friend and it truly is the last hidden gem of Devon. The views on arrival to the hotel are spectacular and the hotel itself is full of old charm hospitality. The family who own are very present and made us all feel like we were coming home not arriving for our first visit.

The staff are warm and friendly nothing is too much trouble. The food is 5* absolutely delicious and presented and delivered way beyond our expectations.

Our only regret is we didn't get to stay longer...cant wait to return xx

90th BIRTHDAY
Pros:

We had booked the Commodore Hotel for my mother's 90th Birthday lunch.
On arrival it seemed there had been an issue in that there was no record of the booking. Not sure what had gone wrong, but the hotel staff responded fantastically.
Soon put a table for 10 together and we had a great lunch.
Food was very good, standard Sunday lunch menu, but very good.
Thoroughly recommend the Commodore for food, service and staff friendliness (not actually stayed there so cannot say anything about accommodation).

Very satisfying stay.
Pros:

The Commodore Hotel is a delightful place to stay, very clean and welcoming. The staff were very pleasant and friendly always willing to oblige. The room was very clean and tidy, yes the bathroom is a little dated but it is clean and does all you need very well. And what a setting looking across the estuary to Appledore. Definitely a place to revisit. Thank you all.
