I appreciated the location since it was so close to the city center. I liked that the view from our room was decent.
There was no AC and only 2 fans facing a singular person in the room. There was only 1 outlet in the room by 1 bunk. They also offered luggage storage for before and after checkout but there was no lock on the door nor was there a system of obtaining your bag so very theft friendly… did not feel safe to leave my bags. Very outdated place and kitchen space had a very small fridge with lots of outdated stuff that should’ve been thrown out sooner. Also no curtains on the beds.
Very clean facility and the staff was great!
The lack of A/C on a warm day made the room stuffy at night.
Konumunu
Berbat odalar felaket
Burası kalınacak bir yer değil, insanlık dışı bir durum var. Odalar çok küçük. İki kişi aynı anda odada duramaz. Hala bir hapishane bence...ikin gün..
The building is quite charming and unique. The room was spacious and nice.
The "bathroom" is an addition in the middle of the room with plastic walls that could be more opaque. I stayed during a heatwave, there was no AC and only a small fan.
finestra non apribile senza aria condizionata
Bijna geen ventilatie in de kamer, waardoor de temperatuur flink oploopt.
Daarbij hadden we de pech dat de stroom uitviel en we midden in de nacht van kamer moesten verwisselen.
The staff went above and beyond during my stay there. I was able to get a lot of info from them about the alps (whether they were opened, closed, a good time to go, etc.) and they were really helpful and knowledgeable. Since it was too windy and snowy up on Mt Pilatus and Titlis, they gave me another recommendation: Mt Rigi. It wasn't on my radar, but I had a great time there. When I needed a new fan to replace the broken one in my room or wanted to join the breakfast buffet last minute, they were quick to help me arrange everything that I needed. When I had an issue with my room, they also gave me a small compensation for the trouble I went through. The location is also great; within walking distance to a bunch of restaurants, shops, and the main train station in Lucerne. I also liked how the building was steeped in history (former prison and all that).
I got a room with two twin beds and a private bathroom. It was really narrow that there was barely any space to open my suitcase. It's no frills inside, which meant there wasn't much space for you to leave any of your belongings. A table here and there would be incredibly helpful! There's a small fan in each room, which was helpful, but because of how small the room was, it didn't help with the stuffiness. And even though there was a window, it was really high up and I don't think it actually opened. I understand Switzerland doesn't typically have air conditioners in the hotel rooms, but making it easy to open the windows and adding mesh screens to prevent bugs from going in would probably help with the humid stuffiness! On my second night, I found little bugs all over my bed. They weren't bed bugs for sure. I don't know what they were but I just slept on the other twin bed with my husband. The sheets and everything looked clean in general, so it's not like this hotel is dirty, per se. His bed only had one (thankfully). In the morning, we told the staff and they gave us a small compensation for the inconvenience. We were already checking out that same morning so we didn't need to change rooms or anything. The bugs might be due to the climate in the room, but I don't know. Anyway, all that to say that the living situation wasn't comfortable. Also, there are no hair dryers; you need to ask for it from the front desk and leave a deposit.
It was easy to find and the room and beds were fine. The room was just very hot with only one fan for six beds.
The temperature of the rooms.
Although the theme is a prison cell, the room is too small for 2 people. We couldn't open our suitcase as the space is cramped. It was hot, no air conditioner, the fan is too small, air is not circulating, we sweat all night.
Really amazing location right next to the city centre, so easy to get around, especially with the travel pass they provide, which lets you use some buses for free. Rooms were clean, space to keep bags and a good amount of airflow, especially when it was really warm. Was a solo traveller and felt safe and comfortable in the shared dorm rooms (mine was all female). Facilities to cook were good, the kitchen did get a bit small, especially at meal times, but I had a fantastic time, and would definitely recommend the place to anyone.
The kitchen did get quite squishy at times, and there were times when people did not clean up their mess. Great to be able to store food in the fridge, but there were quite a few items that were out of date and smelled a bit musty, with some mould growing on some items. This is rather the fault of the people that have been staying rather then the place itself
The room in the Hotel Nozomi section of Barabas was nicely redecorated and well furnished with air conditioning, coffee machine, and a mini fridge. The ensuite bathroom was spacious and the shower had excellent water pressure. Location was very convenient for exploring the old town and main sights of Lucerne.
L’accueil
Une chaleur à crever malgré ventileur et fenêtre ouverte
Det ligger meget lokalt lige i centrum
Der mangler aircondition på værelserne
Værelset var forfærdelig varmt
Great location, spotlessly clean, staff very helpful and friendly. Room was small but we expected that. Although it’s expensive for the size of the room, that’s just Switzerland these days - everything is over priced.
Mattresses were terrible, and this is the first time I’ve ever written this comment because I I’ve always been able to sleep in every other mattress (I’m even comfortable in a hammock!) also the pillows were barely a thing - maybe took the prison vibe too far. Also the room was relentlessly hot even with the fan - the cool night air never permeated the room.
