Hometel Barrio House Mactan

We stayed in Room 6.

We arrived about 10 minutes before 2PM the supposed check-in time of 2:00 PM, yet we received the room key 2:16 PM, no apology or acknowledgment was given. The reason provided was that the previous guest had checked out late. However, I find it hard to believe that the room had just been vacated, based on the following observations:

The shelf in the room was very dusty.

There were several cobwebs along the edges of the ceiling.

The water in the bucket was already very cold, and the dipper was slippery, suggesting it had been sitting there for quite some time and had not been replaced.

The bedsheets did not appear freshly washed.

Areas for improvement:

The water pressure is very weak.

The TV needs to be replaced, as the display is faulty (mostly red).

The bed and sheets need improvement or replacement.

It would be better to remove the hanging shelf near the TV, as it poses a safety hazard—guests may hit their head when entering and walking toward the bathroom.

The air conditioning unit needs proper cleaning, as it emits an unpleasant smell when the temperature is lowered.

Even though the rates are affordable, good service and proper maintenance should still be provided.

The shower, the water is not that strong

The neighbors and the location were fine. I booked the place because the advertisement said it was near Mactan Center, but I was a bit disappointed because it was actually quite far.

I would not recommend this place, especially if you are a group of girls traveling. Unfortunately, my experience was quite traumatizing.

The first night went fine, but after a few nights we started noticing a lot of cockroaches. They seemed to come from outside the room, possibly surfacing due to the rain. When I say a lot, I truly mean it—there were dozens right in front of our room. My partner has a fear of insects, which made the situation even more stressful.

The second major issue was the location. There were two disturbing men loitering near the property. One was right outside, and another at the highway, only a five-minute walk away. They would actually chase people, which made us feel unsafe the entire time.

It’s a shame because, without these problems, I would have gladly given a 5-star rating. The customer service itself was excellent, but the safety concerns and pest issue completely overshadowed that.

The bathroom could use a little more cleaning. I noticed that the trash bin wasn't removed my entire stay. Also the bathroom faucet was loose. I have to use both hands in opening and closing the faucet tap (one hand for the faucet, other hand to hold it in place).

They don't have a decent parking space, only roadside parking.
