Location, staff, interior, grounds
We stayed in a suite and the small sofa was well past it's best and extremely uncomfortable
Second time we have stayed, a fabulously unique and special place. Wonderful setting, great staff, felt very well looked after
Nothing to not like
The whole Hotel is like a museum to the flooded valley below, its a beautiful art deco piece of architecture with the most welcoming staff. We will definitely be back in a few months.
Breakfast excellent. Style of hotel and location all very good.
Disappointing to have no proper choice of draft beers/lagers. Not impressed with draft drink choices and enough to put me off returning in a hurry.
The staff were great. Breakfast was very nice and lots to choose from. The location was a little out of the way but it is what we were expecting. Lots of walking routes around the lake
The staff had the balance of attention to detail but respecting privacy, just right. Always a smile and a friendly word which is refreshing these days and always willing to help when they could. The setting is gorgeous and I loved that the hotel was accessible for all from dogs to young families, which gave it a lovely relaxed...loved the decor and our room was spotless.
For me, the only thing that perhaps could be sharpened was the temp of our shower. We were in the Longsdale room, which felt a cosy snug but the water temp could have been hotter for us.
Loved the decor, location and feel of the place. It had been done really well. Sunday roast was good too.
The staff were perfectly fine. Some just seemed a little lacklustre. . After a long journey, a welcoming smile doesn't cost much.
Good views outside
Quirky decor
Frosted windows in bedroom
Not enough light for mirrors
Same and limited menu
Very creaky floors in bathroom
Excellent views over the lake and fells and nicely themed art deco interior.
Shower head dripped.
Staff were generally smart, but all wore something different so would have looked better if all were wearing the same uniform.
La situation géographique en bord de lac, le bâtiment et sa décoration sont incroyables. Un manoir anglais comme on s'y attend dans un style art déco.
Le repas du soir était également très bon !
Firstly the location is simply stunning whatever the weather. We've visited twice in summer and in autumn. The property is very much in the 1930s style. If you're used to super modern city hotels this may come as a shock! The general ambience is cosy, the staff are all friendly and the feeling is one of more relaxed easy-going times. They've tried hard to stay firmly in the 1930s and I like it very much. Oh, and the food is top tier. Absolutely lovely.
The incredibly squeaky bed frame in the adjacent room that woke us up every time they moved. The wonky toilet seat and the poor water pressure. Some things are to be expected in such an old property.
breakfast great
second floor room not great for our dog
It’s a great building in a great location. Great breakfast. Staff lovely. Bath was great. Quiet.
£6 for a can of Guinness. Food was priced top end but didn’t seem like value. Room was dusty. Bar disappointing. Nothing on draft. Just expensive cans or bottles. TV don’t work properly. We have stayed lots of times. The food was disappointing and very expensive this time. I don’t mind paying if it’s great. We complained but no one came back to us.
We love the rooms, the location is just incredible, the service is always friendly, it’s so cosy and relaxing.
The food wasn’t quite as good as usual but it didn’t spoil our trip at all!
