Very good welcoming reception. Good spaces for parking. Lovely room with a comfortable bed. Good selection of teas and bottled water provided.
Adequate breakfast selection with an excellent server who fulfilled all our needs in a timely efficient manner.
perfect location.
More attention needs to be paid to dust in the bedroom and bathroom.
Room was large & well set out. Staff all very freindly and especially Callum in restaurant. He could not have been more helpfull.
Water pressure very low so had to strip wash as shower did not work very well. Although it was very clean.
Location great breakfast excellent Friday night entertainment excellent quirky setting for car parking sraff friendly and professional
Mattress was near its end date
lovely decor, the breakfast was very tasty and staff were lovely.
parking was tight but not a problem for my small fiesta. The poached eggs take a while to come out in the morning. The noise is quite noticeable on weekends if there are events downstairs. The hot water from the showers comes out boiling and the temperature control is difficult to get right.
Central, welcoming and excellent room amenities
Car park access
Check in I was concerned about the Car parking but everything went well Breakfast was good Staff were very good Room was very comfortable
Unfortunately it is an old building and we had a bit of a convoluted hike to get to the room. The nespresso coffee machine was awful
Lovely position. Parking. Friendly staff. Comfortable
Posizione ottima, centralissima. Pulizia. Parcheggio gratuito.
Characterful coaching inn- really quirky layout. Rooms clean and very comfortable. Positioned right next to the market square so perfectly placed to visit cathedral and Bishop’s Palace.
Nothing
The receptionist was lovely on arrival (Diane) and as we checked out, the room was clean and had good facilities (sockets and storage. The breakfast offered a nice selection too. The proximity of the hotel to the Cathedral and Palace was great and in the centre of Wells.
The layout downstairs was a little strange, the bar was tiny with an attached restaurant, with a lounge available across the corridor. There seemed a reasonable number of staff there, but they never seemed to be available. The rooms were a little 'stuffy' with little ability to let in a breeze.
Location
Staff very friendly. Excellent position in the city. Nicely decorated. Great to have parking.
Nothing
I am publishing this review, as I did an in house survey raising several issues and have not a had a response from the hotel. As mentioned by others, parking can be tricky as very tight entrance and not many spaces, but we did get a parking space without issue. After booking in, we thought we would take advantage of the sunny garden with great views of the cathedral and that was when the first problem was encountered. We entered the bar and asked if they have a Happy Hour (we weren't expecting but just hoping} to be told in an off hand manner 'No, and no one does happy hour any more'. Undeterred we would still have bought cocktails here, but the first two we asked for were unavailable due to a wedding the weekend before, so we left. Managed to find two very local hostelries offering cocktails on offer, so no incentive to return to the hotel bar. Our room was small, but pleasant with a 4 poster (No 35), and a bath in the ensuite which I prefer. However the room was a bit dated and tired. Our first impression of the restaurant was not good either, as two of our party were barged out of the way by a waiter carrying plates of food as we entered. It was busy with a long wait for food, but when it arrived it was pleasant. At breakfast, we were not offered toast, and had to ask someone to take our hot food order as no one came to offer this. However we were able to have cappuccino at no extra cost. The buffet was rather uninspiring compared to other hotels I have stayed in at a similar price point.
On a positive note, one member of staff (David) was very helpful when we were looking for recommendations for a local cider outlet to visit.
Overall the stay was disappointing and we would probably not return. Most of the staff were young and personable when speaking to us, but seemed poorly trained to be aware of customers needs and pro actively offer service.
We had Sunday lunch in the dining room. Several items were not available, but we all chose a roast dinner. Beef and Lamb were the options with the roast of the day being pork. No white meat as a choice which is my favourite. Lunch was fine with a huge Yorkshire pudding. Price very reasonable and staff very attentive.
