Nice big rooom in the top of the hotel. Bath because the shower pressure isn't really there. Little things like decent towels and complimentary shampoo. Internet really good. Actually possible to VPN into work. 24hr receptionist with good security is a bonus. 10 - 15 mins walk from the bus station at Newport. Short walk from the college about 10 mins. Once I got used to it, and I am here for some weeks on assignment for work, I actually rather like it. So I keep coming back!
A strong shower would have been nice, but the bath is OK. The natives can be a bit restless as it is not in an "up market" part of town. Warning: There is NO car parking, so you have to take your chances with the local car parks...
The hotel is in a perfect location in the centre of Newport. It is close to all the shops, the bus station and many pubs and restaurants.
The hotel is very dated and the minute we got in the room we knew it would be a big disappointment. Even though it was May the weather was cold and we'd had heavy rain and hail on the journey over and yet the heating was not on in the room and was obviously not working. The bathroom was spacious but the bath looked grubby.
Then, around 9pm a man in the room above started talking loudly and that continued until 3am. Admittedly that's not the hotels fault but that was the final straw and we went back onto booking.com and booked another hotel for our second night.
The radiators did not work. The only thing colder than the room was the reception we got checking in. To say rude would be an understatement statement. I will never step foot in that place again
Nothing
Takes money for no service
Not a lot unfortunately
It was a trip back to the 70’s. No working shower, old and tiered rooms, poor fittings and furniture and not worth the money.
Room quite and immaculate, The receptionist was friendly and happy ,great location as well close to shops etc...Will return, pricing is great, Well done.
I don't have any negative feedback.
The location
It was very dated and in need of refurbishing, decorating and updating. The bed was very small the bathroom was old and the toilet didn’t flush properly.
Clean
Noisy, poor waterflow in bath, basically rubbish? Dated....
good
good
Wifi, bath, tv, comfy bed, large room. Traditional British hotel with lots of history.
Hot water sometimes didn't come out of the tap, and insufficient pressure for a shower.
Character and charm. The room was reflected in the cost for this time of the year.Very clean and Right in the centre of Newport was brilliant.
No shelving or hooks in the bathroom for toiletries an dressing gowns etc.And carpet in bathroom definitely a no no.
Room was clean and tidy very quite staff was polite.
Duvet covers a bit thin .great for summer but could do with a higher tog . My personal prefrence
I only stayed for the night so didn't really see much of the hotel. I chose it for the location, 3 mins walk for Quay arts.
All good
