Cheapest hotel on booking, but clean, comfortable and on my route through Tampico. Safe, friendly neighbourhood corner. Enclosed parking across the street. They had made many improvements to the room fairly recently. Bathroom was spotless with new toilet and tile. Front desk was pleasant and helpful. New air conditioning worked like a charm!
Keep in mind that the "good" is by Mexican standards. It is not in the prettiest area of the city and the neighborhood is not prosperous - but nobody seemed afraid to walk at night as they are in some cities. Couples, singles and families out for a stroll after dinner. Taco stands on the street outside lend a social atmosphere too. If you're looking for fancy this ain't it, but if you want a safe comfortable place to sleep without the frills it's perfectly acceptable.
