It's a good place, good location. Restaurant on the roof was amazing.
Pros:

Very good food in the restaurant on the roof, great prices, especially local breakfasts, masala tea and seafood kottu!
Very helpful host and staff. You only have to ask, and they will answer all your questions, arrange everything you need, not only locally but they have connections around the island.
I had to work online a bit from 11 pm to 2 am, doing it on the roof in a comfortable chair was a pleasure.
Good quality for the money.

Cons:

No view from a window in a room is a minus, but we only spent the nights in the room so it is not that important.
Wifi could be better, but it is not a hosts fault. Anyway a 4$ Sim card solves all the connection problems.
Everything else was good.

Pros:

Friendly and helpful staff and close to the beach.

Cons:

According to booking.com the unit I booked comes with minibar, refridgerator, iron, mosquito net and electric kettle, but it didn't. I could use the fridge and the kettle in the kitchen though.
Total room price according to booking.com LKR16,422.60, but I was charged LKR 21,000. Even with 18% government tax I do not reach that amount.

Pros:

The staff was friendly. Beautifull beach.

Cons:

The bed sheets and towels need a better look. Need sound proofing. The end of the road to the beach was filthy with garbage.

Clean AC rooms
Pros:

The AC in the room makes a plus.
The owner can drive you anywhere by tuk tuk and rent a scooter.

Upuveli is definitely the place to stay on the east coast

Cons:

The food wasn’t good at all. We only had breakfast and the coffee, pancakes and porridge were really bad. We didn’t eat there afterwards.
Also, when booking transportation with them make sure you check prices in the town because they tried to make us pay more than the market price.
Location is a bit far away from the center (10min walk)
The walls are really thin and we could hear everything.
Also there was a water shortage and wifi wasn’t working.
