Hospitality and Staff
Costly food
The staff was very polite & cooperative.
Location was a little away from the main shopping centre.
Extremely grateful for my stay in The Kumoan! The room was wonderful and comfortable with an amazing view from a large terrace area. Nikhil and the team were exceptionally kind and helpful! The food was also very tasty. Thank you very much 🙏 Ram Ram ❤️
Nice ,quiet place.Quick service, tasty and clean food.
The room details were not clearly mentioned on the booking.com page. We got one bathroom with duplex room having no view.Roof was of metal so whole night sound of monkeys roaming was heard. They gave only one bottle of water complementary though the room was booked for 4 people.
Cleanness
No balcony n window to
Just returned from a wonderful family weekend in Nainital, where we stayed at The Kumaon Retreat. The experience was truly exceptional — clean and well-maintained rooms, courteous and helpful staff, and a peaceful ambience throughout. It’s definitely a great value for money. Highly recommended for families and couples looking for a comfortable and relaxing stay!
They don't have restaurant in hotel but they have kitchen. You can order food and take it in your room or reception. Food quality was good, except Chinese food.
Food
We stayed here recently and honestly, wouldn’t recommend it. The hotel is located high up on a hill, but there’s no proper parking space at all. We had to park right in front of the hotel where it turns out it’s a no parking zone. The next morning, the police showed up, scolded us, and gave us a challan — all because no one from the hotel bothered to inform us! The staff was clueless and there was no one from the management around the whole time we were there.
Even basic things were missing — they didn’t have slippers for everyone in our group, and the staff didn’t know how to handle anything properly. At night, some other guests on our floor were making a lot of noise, and no one from the hotel said a word or tried to handle the situation. It was quite frustrating.
One big tip if you're planning to stay in Nainital — please check the parking situation beforehand. Most areas don't allow personal vehicles, and even if you manage to park near the lake, it's ₹500 for a four-wheeler. Yes, ₹500! We had our own vehicle but still had to book a local taxi to move around town because outside vehicles aren't allowed.
So yeah, between the poor management, lack of parking info, and zero guidance from the hotel, the whole experience was far from relaxing. Wouldn't stay here again.
The staff was cordial and the cleanliness was good, I had to ask for toiletries and they provided a Shampoo sachet whereas the stay was booked for 2 adults+2 children. The location is peaceful but it needs guts to reach the place as it is a steep incline and requires a tiring walk of around 1 KM. It is a one way road between 6 am - 8 pm so you have to take a 3-4 km route to reach the hotel by taxi. (makes it a little costly if you are willing to go out multiple times a day). The best part is that they can accommodate 4-5 cars at their parking lot, which saves you a lot of burden of parking your own car, I left my car at parking and used a taxi to ferry the places.
The view from the room was good especially the sunrise. Although don't expect to see the lake. You can't. It's just mountain view.
The room was very small. No heater provided and the temperature was like 1 degree. You have to pay Rs 200 to get one hreater. I don't know if this was per day as we stayed just one night. The walls are flimsy. We could hear the boys banging pots and singing next to our room, the telephone ringing in the reception. At 3 am we were woken up by monkeys running and scrapping on the roof. This went on until 4.30ish. Also food was really passable. Poha at breakfast was good. But dinner we ordered for khichdi and I specifically requested for watery khichdi as my husband had an upset stomach. We got green moong khichdi which was spicy and the rice was a bit kacha.
The hotel is high up in the mountains. So If you are holidaying and want to be on the mall road....its a way down narrow roads and you will need a cab.
Book only if you are on a budget and not staying long.
Host and staff are really cordial and polite. Rooms are also well maintained with top notch cleanliness. View from balcony is also good.
Other than missing out on lake view, there is hardly anything which comes under cons for this hotel.
