The Annex: Traditional Japanese Style Accommodation
Pros:

We rented the annex; a Japanese style house about 500 m from the main hotel. We loved its location. We were minutes from the heart of Gion, a 20 minute walk from Kiomizudera, and close to 2 train stations for easy access to Fushimi Inari and other areas of Kyoto. The annex is in a quiet, residential part of Gion so good sleep was assured.
The living areas had tatami floors. The mats were comfortable and warm underfoot. The two sleeping areas were divided by sliding doors. The futons were very comfortable. Extra futons were available if you wanted more padding. The pillows were reasonably comfortable by north America standards, but we were glad we had our memory foam travel pillows as well. The kitchen had everything we needed (except scissors) to prepare simple stove top meals, which suited us perfectly. The bath tub was like having your own private onsen. Heavenly! The staff were great! They were quick to answer questions, help forward luggage, call a taxi etc. If you want to experience simple, traditional, Japanese style living, the annex is perfect. We greatly enjoyed our stay there and would stay again.

Cons:

Be aware that the stairs to the second level are steep. The handrail is sturdy, but the stairwell is open on one side. It wasn't a problem for us, but it could be an issue for others.
If you have large luggage, be prepared to leave it downstairs in the vestibule. If 2 beds are made up in a room, there isn't much floor space left for a suitcase larger than carry-on size. Again, not a problem, just something to be aware of.
The first bedroom, which opens onto the stair landing, has an emergency exit sign in it. Make sure you have a sleep mask if you prefer a dark room at night.

Pros:

Es nuestra segunda vez alojados aquí. La ubicación muy buena en Gion cerca de los lugares más turísticos. Pudieron recepcionar y enviar nuestro equipaje al siguiente hotel. Cuenta con lavadora y pequeña cocina con microondas que viene muy bien.

Lo mejor, la ubicación y disponer de un alojamiento grande (para lo que suele ser habitual en Japón).

Cons:

Las ventanas que dan a los balcones estaban bloqueadas y se indicaba que no se abrieran. Como consecuencia, cuando lavé y tendí la ropa, toda la habitación olía a húmedo y tardó mucho más en secarse la ropa.
