Old motel still putting out.
Pros:

Kamo is a nice part of whangarei
Kamo takeaways- 1 minute walk to great burgers with fresh salad, beetroot & carrot, tomato,lettuce. - Hawaiian burger so good.

Value for a "Pub Style Hostel" but needs serious TLC
Pros:

I like that our room was clean and has 2 twin beds that are comfortable with clean linen. The shower has good water pressure. The guy serving at the bar also checked us in and was friendly.

Cons:

The word "Hotel" gives the wrong impression...this is more like a pub-style hostel than a standard hotel. It is sad because this could be a beautiful historical landmark but instead it currently looks old, neglected and very tired. The whole place is in desperate need of maintenance and upgrade. Additionally there was no restaurant available during out stay andwe weren't told about wifi access upon check in. This place has so much potential but it feels neglected and forgotten...

Have since tried to make contact with manager to diguse some kind of compensation but no answer

It didn't have visible cockroaches

Cons:

The hotel was obviously a good busy place once, but probably a victim of COVID and closed, now reopened as a sports bar with a pokey room and rooms to stay, but it's in a shocking state. The wall light in our room was literally hanging off the wall by it's cables, an obvious electric shock hazard, the curtain over the window was pretty much impossible to open, the furniture was covered in graffiti, the TV showed channels but none worked, the door handle had obviously been forced in the past, the shared bathroom was filthy, no hot water, rubbish on the window sill, the shower bath stained beyond belief. Altogether disgusting.

Unique . Great location we enjoyed the historic stay
Pros:

Location was perfect
Need to take your own blankets
We loved the stay loved being in such a old building
That’s it it is a old building so the facilities are to but we loved it

The area

Cons:

The remote did not work, told the person in charge and he just gave me a remote that had a back case and turned the tv on an off, spent the night watching 1 movie. Also one side of the bed had broken springs

Несвежее серое белье. Кондиционера нет, только вентилятор! Хотя был уже вечер в комнате был спертый воздух, душно и жарко. Маленькое окно выходило на проезжую часть. Ночевать там для нас, женщин в возрасте, было неприемлемо, мы боялись за свое здоровье. Осмотрев номер, мы НЕ остались там. Мы незамедлительно уехали.

Better than expected, over all done the job.

I will be coming back in the future.
Pros:

I did not have breakfast at the hotel. Or any meals for that matter. I went out for eating. So I have no idea what the food was like there.
I did not even have a drink there , so I didn't eat or drink at the hotel.

Cons:

Kamo was a bit far out. No buses running on a Sunday is a strange thing for a city, it is probably the only city in the country that buses don't run on a Sunday. The other days the buses where great
