This hotel is affordable and is in the attractive village of Kamo just outside of Whangarei. This is a 100 yr old hotel which has been stripped of its heritage features leaving the new owners a huge renovation project. Expect the basics .
We had a reasonably comfy king bed, soap and towels provided, good shower but no tea/coffee making facilities.
There is currently no restaurant on site but next door coffee and breakfast and for dinner a good Thai restaurant, Turkish, Chinese and Indian restaurants. The owners were very understanding that we had to cancel twice and rebook because of weather conditions.
The TV didn't work. There was no signal. Management tried to help but to no avail.
Provision of tea and coffee would have been great. Anyone staying needs to know that the rooms are badly in need of painting.
Friendly staff, easy check in process
Room was dirty. Shower & walls in bathroom hadn't been cleaned in awhile. Only half a roll of toilet paper on the holder & nothing more, not sufficent enough for two people staying from 3pm till 10am the following day. Nothing to advise guests where to find the kitchen or shared bathrooms. No soap of any kind - for handwashing or showering. Bedspread & towels were stained. Kitchen filthy & absolutely TINY
Clean sheets comfortable bed
Toilet old stained dirty. Noisy right next to traffic lights shower door jammed. Shared kitchen dirty tiny
Road is a bit noisy. Hotel is on bus route to city but there were no buses on Good Friday or Easter Monday.
I arrived at the hotel but there were no staff to let me in and I had to wait until someone could let me in.

Interesting piece of history. Lots of potential with old fashioned pub charm. Beds were comfortable and the new tv was an added bonus. Was able to watch NZTV+ streamed. Could have put in Netflix etc. Delicious Indian food across the street. Good hot shower. We were diving at Tutukaka, which was only 20 mins. Excellent value.
Lock on the shard bathroom was broken, but there was no one else there. The restaurant and pub are closed, which didn’t bother us. They appear to have been closed for months.
Easy location to find, most of all the pub underneath 😜
The smell of the room had and odd smell to it had to sleep with windows wide open and fan on all night
The place is on the old highway 20+ years ago off the beaten track now old dated building full of history and a decent stay I was surprised the people are lovely
It's a great place to stay for what I needed decent
Value for Money, Comfortable beds, Helpful Staff.
Would be so cool if a restaurant still was there. But the history redeemed itself
Kamo is a nice part of whangarei
Kamo takeaways- 1 minute walk to great burgers with fresh salad, beetroot & carrot, tomato, lettuce. - Hawaiian burger so good.
Wait 4 service- bartender running it by himself. Motel & pub - pokies

Affordability and location to where I wanted to go was good
Our room had a awful smell like stale
