great facilities, restaurant and bar were really good.
.
Lovely big room & comfortable bed & leisure facilities were great
Cleaners never refilled my tea tray
Very clean and rooms were good size
The road leading to the hotel has no lighting when dark
The health club was lovely, nicely decorated and a warm atmosphere. The room was large and spacious with a huge comfy bed.
Having read mixed reviews I was unsure what to expect but sadly was disappointed. To begin with, the hallway to our room smelled unpleasant, slightly smoky. Upon entering the room and opening the curtains I noticed cigarette ash on the window sill. One of the bedside lamps was missing a bulb but realistically we didn’t necessarily need this. There were no towels in the room but we were quickly provided with these after letting reception know. The heating hadn’t been on and the room was freezing, however having read recent reviews about the room being cold I brought a portable heater and thank god I did! We would have been extremely uncomfortable if we didn’t have that to heat the room up. Lastly, the dinner experience was very poor. We had a table booked for 19:15 and were given a menu when we sat down. It wasn’t until 45 minutes later when another table nearby was complaining about waiting 40 minutes for their drinks that I informed them our order still hadn’t been taken. 45 minutes of sitting with nothing. We placed our drinks and food order at the same time. We then waited roughly another 15-20 minutes to actually receive our drinks. A couple that arrived a while after us received their drinks and food before us. The restaurant was not overly busy so we were confused as to why everything was taking so long. The (young) staff were very friendly and apologetic but there was a severe lack of structure, organisation and experience. After waiting so long, the food was further disappointment. The fish was mushy, dry and tasted like it had been frozen. The burger also tasted frozen and not restaurant quality at all, the bacon on the burger was rubbery and burnt at the edges. The worst part is the cost for food of such poor quality- we were £52 for 2 mains and two alcoholic drinks. We were extremely disappointed with the food and couldn’t even finish it. Had stayed here as a birthday overnight stay and it was sadly a let down.
Breakfast was nice other than I had to ask for fried eggs as there were none out and there was only 1 piece of bacon out.
The restaurant in the evening was awful and we certainly did not enjoy that experience.
When we sat down there were only another 2 tables occupied who were well through their meal, so it was quiet. We ordered drinks straight away but sadly had to keep asking for these a further 3 times, we were told each time they were on their way. Another table came in 15 mins after us, ordered drinks and these were served while we were still waiting !!! After nearly half an hour the food arranged, which was decidedly average, my sons peppercorn sauce was inedible, it had split and when poured it was butter that drizzled out. At this point unbelieveably the food was here before the drinks, hard to believe considering it was a glass of wine and a can of coke. Eventually 5 mins into being served our meal we received the drinks.
I had read a very similar complaint on line but just thought this must have been an exaggeration however I can now confirm it was not.
I would not recommend this restaurant should I be asked and in fact the experience put a real negative spin on what would have been a really nice stay with yourselves which is such a shame.
The best thing about it was the health club next door. The pool was nice and so were (most) of the staff, bar one middle aged man who questioned us in a weird way when asking to borrow some towels, which made us feel like we were doing something wrong by asking. We stayed for dinner one of the nights and it was lovely (highly recommend the fish and chips).
Our door handle was broken on our room and kept locking us out, so we asked to change it as we were staying there for three nights. At first tried to offer us a twin room which would’ve been no good to us but eventually put us in a better place, which we were grateful for. The shower curtain was mouldy in both rooms, one of the coffee mugs had obviously been used and not replaced and it was just a disappointing stay in general.
Facilities, location and accommodation were good , but the staff were excellent and really made our trip for us. Jack, Diane and Nicola especially were welcoming, kind and professional. We look forward to returning.
TV signal and wifi signal in our rooms were not great, but could have been due to weather conditions at the time.
Very much enjoyed our overnight stay here. The staff were particularly helpful, friendly and professional and our room was comfortable, warm, clean and well equipped. The health suite is very impressive with a lovely pool, sauna and steam room. All excellent value for money at January rates.
The croissants at breakfast were of a poor quality and not very edible.
