Lake Wave Hotel

This was a great location to stay at. Couldn’t fault it. My room upstairs had a private balcony which overlooked the lake. The aircon was excellent as was the strong hot shower. My bed was clean and comfortable. It was a joy talking with Milan the owner, especially about Buddhism. He organised a guide to take me to the ancient city. A privilege to see the people come to feed the monks and pay their respects at the white stupa. Also wonderful was his mother’s traditional cooking - food I never experienced elsewhere in Sri Lanka. The friendliness and helpfulness of staff was wonderful. I highly recommend staying here

Nous avons adoré notre séjour. Le propriétaire était d’une très grande gentillesse et disponibilité. Grace a des conseils, nous avons pu optimiser notre séjour à Anuradhapura.
Nous avons également apprécié l’emplacement, le calme et propreté de l’établissement.
Sa maman s’est levé à 5h du matin pour nous préparer notre petit déjeuner lors de la journée au parc national de Wilpattu.

L'atenció del Milan,el propietari, és excepcional, des del primer moment que entres al Lake wave hotel té la delicadesa d'explicar-te tot, des de coses de la seva ciutat com els plats típics del país que cuinen de forma casolana des de l'hotel i estan bonissims.
Ens va organitzar el tour per la ciutat amb guia i va ser un dia genial, vam aprendre molt, ho recomanem!
Ens hem sentit molt cuidats!!

De plek is heel leuk. De tuin met hangmatten en zicht op het meer is prachtig. En alle bezienswaardigheden zijn maar een kort tuktuk-ritje rijden.
Lekker ontbijt, een comfortabele kamer en goed geregelde uitstappen, meer hadden we niet nodig voor ons (te kort) verblijf in Anuradhapura

We cannot praise Lake Wave Hotel enough.
The owner, Milan, is an extremely nice, enthusiastic and helpful man with impeccable English. Within two minutes of arriving, he’d recommended two of his friends for tuk tuk tours at an extremely reasonable price. We started with four hours around Mihintale with an excellent guide, Nalin, via a stop-off at an ancient tree swarming with monkeys and a peaceful ancient temple. The next day, we had a six-hour tuk tuk tour around the sites of the old city with the incomparable Siri, who I cannot recommend highly enough. He really did his best for us… we finished the tour in the dark with my two daughters singing a prayer next to him in front of a 2,000-year-old Buddha in the forest.
As for the Lake Wave: the family room was large, clean and comfortable, with a kettle, air con, mosquito nets and an en suite. There is an incredible huge covered balcony overlooking a beautiful, quiet garden (the first thing we saw was a green parrot in the tree directly opposite us!). The lake is immediately outside the garden gate and we had a very gentle twenty-minute stroll around it, stopping on the way back to use a swimming pool 100m from Milan’s place (as suggested by him). In the morning, my daughters lay in the hammocks in the garden and read.
Milan’s mother sells clothes and purses she’s made herself inside the foyer and my daughters bought three purses and one bag. The food was delicious and we ate absolutely everything: rice steamed in bamboo, with coconut milk and fruit juice and fresh fruit, roti with fresh sambul. The whole family were gentle and charming. Milan arranged a car to take us to Nilaveli at a competitive price. I would trust anyone he recommends!
I wish we could have stayed longer.

Milan is een perfecte host die ons warm verwelkomde en steeds paraat stond. De kamers kregen net een prachtig terras. Zeer goed werkende airco waardoor het prima slapen was. Goede douche. De eigenaar verhuurt fietsen tegen een heel schappelijke prijs. De ligging is fantastisch met op wandelafstand enkele leuke restaurantjes. Absoluut een aanrader!!! Dank je wel Milan voor de mooie, gastvrije start van onze rondreis door Sri Lanka.

Milan is an outstanding host. We kept (happily) extending our stay. Milan offered us wise advice about when to visit the Buddhist temples so that it was comfortable in the heat as well as informative. We are both in our mid(plus!) 60’s. We were guided and driven by the excellent guide Siri. Take Milan’s advise, and trust him. We loved the lake view and garden. Being able to circumnavigate the tank ( reservoir) for a 45 minute walk in the morning or evening was a welcome distraction from the busyness of the city. Lovely room with a view of the garden. Authentic fresh breakfasts and evening meals but also a 10 minute walk to nearby, lakeside restaurant and excellent coffee shop.

Een oudere woonst met ruime kamers. De meubels zijn niet zo modern maar alles is wel proper. Gelegen aan het meer, een tuin om in te zitten en een afgesloten terras met zetels en eettafels. Zeer vriendelijke eigenaar en zijn moeder is de kokkin. Het avondmaal en ontbijt was haar specialiteit, lekker.
Spijtig dat er muggen waren maar rond 17h aan een meer is dat onvermijdelijk. De host bracht meteen citronella en er stond ook wierook tegen de muggen.

Host was very helpful in organising local tours and adapting suggestions to our tastes. Some nice local spots to eat and have a cold drink nearby. Room and beds were comfortable

Ontzettend aardig host die veel voor je regelt. Je kunt er ook echt heerlijk ontbijten en dineren. De host vertelt er ook een mooi verhaal bij! Je bent wellicht iets meer kwijt maar het is zeker de moeite waard

The host was super helpful and did organise all our tours for us. Breakfast and dinner was exceptional, best food I had in Sri Lanka so far.

Milan is an excellent host. Both the breakfasts and dinners were excellent. The location on the lake is a beautiful setting.

Lovely home made Sri Lankan Breakfast. Including tropical fruits and Sri Lankan polpani pancakes and halapa. Milan was very helpful.

We hadden dit hotel geboekt omdat in de reviews werd gezegd dat Milan zo’n goede gastheer is en bij binnenkomst meteen voorstellen heeft over hoe deze mooie stad aan te vallen. En dat was ook zo. We hebben ons twee dagen erg verwend gevoeld. Milan regelde de eerste dag een tuktuk naar Mihintale, de tweede dag een uitstekende gids/chauffeur voor een tocht langs alle bezienswaardigheden van Anuradhapura. Dit alles voor een redelijke prijs, die we rechtstreeks aan de gids/chauffeur zelf betaalden.
Het eten was fantastisch. De moeder van Milan kookt en hij vond het leuk om te proberen ons iets voor te schotelen wat we in de dik drie weken daarvoor niet hadden gehad. Dat lukte. Ondanks dat we in Sri lanka overal heerlijk gegeten hebben kregen we gisterenavond de lekkerste maaltijd tot nu toe. De kamer is ook mooi, de tuin fijn. Kortom, we kunnen dit hotel aan iedereen aanbevelen!

Très bon emplacement, face au lac. Très bon petit déjeuner et dîner. Personnel très sympathique.
