EKUKU lake houses

Perfect location – peacefully tucked away from the noisy main street, yet just a short scooty ride from everything you might need. I stayed here for a surfing holiday and truly felt at home the entire time.

The room was spacious and clean, and the bed was really comfortable. The surroundings are beautiful – you can spot all kinds of animals and birds, enjoy quiet evenings, and even stargaze. Some nights at Ekuku were so special that I didn’t feel the need to go out at all.

I also appreciated having a fridge in the room and access to a shared kitchen. It’s worth noting that room cleaning is arranged directly with the hosts, which I actually found nice – they really respect their guests’ privacy and give you space to relax fully.

Please note that the bathroom is in a tropical, open-air style, and the property is surrounded by jungle, so you may see some ants or other small creatures – but that’s all part of the experience and adds to the charm of staying so close to nature.

Ein wunderschöner Ort in der Natur. Perfekt zum Runterkommen. Unser Apartment war sehr großzügig und hatte einen schönen Balkon zum See. Ein besonderes Highlight waren die süßen Tiere. Die schönste Unterkunft auf unserer Reise bisher.

Property is very unique and special. I was bit afraid for swarms of mozquitos but that was not the case at all. Instead it was like a wildlife sanctuary with bats, monkeys, turtles and cute ducks waddling around in the garden. Our room was cozy, cool, with a comfy bed, beautiful outdoor shower and great view overlooking the lake from bedroom window & terrace.

We spent three nights at Ekuku Lake Houses and had such a wonderful time. The place is peaceful and calm, surrounded by beautiful trees and a small lake — perfect for a relaxing stay. The room and bathroom were spacious and clean, with a wonderful view of the lake and trees. The place is hosted by Mr. Roshan and his family, who were very welcoming and made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. We would happily return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway in Midigama.

As soon as we arrived, we felt right at home and immediately extended our stay for a whole month. The place is cozy, calm, and very clean — like your own little oasis, perfectly located yet quiet and private.

The hosts are absolutely wonderful — truly a magical family. They helped us with everything: renting a scooter, offering access to the kitchen, even picking papaya leaves for us to help with a virus. Their kindness and care made our stay unforgettable.

We’re so grateful for this beautiful place — highly recommend it to anyone looking for comfort, peace, and a warm-hearted atmosphere. 💛

The Owners are really really nice!! They try to help where they can. The enviorment is really nice too! If you looking for a calm place its a beatiful place. But dont go in the end of the season bc the restaurant is closed so you have to drive somewhere to find food.

The two people run EKUKU alongside their love of surfing in the Midigama area. If surfing is why you are going to the south, then this place is for you.

The team that have been employed to help run EKUKU are attentive, friendly and great cooks. The slogan on the menu says “we cook food that we love” is true. With western owners and Sri Lankan workers, you see this in the food choices.

As the lake houses are set back from the beach (about 500m) with a direct view over the lake, you get to see some wonderful wildlife outside your room, including freshwater turtles, every now and again.

Hard to find the right words to describe Ekuku.. our staying was an unforgettable experience.

Situated far from the noise of the main road, Ekuku is a peaceful and chilled place, where you’ll find yourself immersed in the tropical nature and surrounded by the sounds of the jungle, just a few minutes away from the best Midigama surf spots.

We stayed in the lovely left apartment for 2 weeks, enjoying the relaxed vibe of the place and the delicious food of the restaurant, a nice mix of European and Sri Lankan flavours (everything’s super tasty and we recommend not to miss the lasagna when available!).

Hedi, Alex and all the Ekuku crew were fantastic, always willing to share the best tips and advices and taking care of our needs.

Ekuku is definitely the place to be in Midigama, we felt like home and will be back for sure!

Amazing Place With lovely friendly staff! Perfect place to relax and they have the most delicious banana pancakes in Midigama! Will Definetly be returning to Ekuku Lake houses.

Ekuku was our home is Sri Lanka. We loved the place and the staff, and felt super welcomed. The food at the restaurant is amazing! Alex and Hedwig's advices for the area are the best :)

The EKUKU lake house was an absolutely beautiful, comfortable, and cozy place to stay at. A calm oasis on the small island with everything you may need for peaceful and relaxing leisure.
The beach is a short drive away, the restaurant of the accommodation is nice, and the staff was very welcoming. Hope to return there someday!

Ekuku is a place to calm down and enjoy. The rooms are newly renovated and very comfortable. The outdoor bathroom sure is a highlight!
Breakfast was delicious, with the opportunity to choose between local or western meals. If you want to eat in, the restaurant in midst of the garden offers a variety of tasty dishes. Busstop is only 10min walk away, the close beaches are all very nice. To Weligama it’s just a short busride, also to Ahangama.
I felt very welcomed and well looked after! There are dogs and cats living on the grounds, which adds an extra homely feeling. The hosts Alex and Eddie helped me with transportation, tips for surfing and took me to the local market and bakery. All in all it was a wonderful experience and I will return!

Of course Edie and Alex to start, who were immaculate and interesting hosts. Besides them the spot itself is beautiful, very peaceful and with clean well equipped rooms. Solid Wi-Fi too for remote workers, my days working in the restaurant space were perfect. We were there also for the surf which didn’t disappoint.
