Rooms and staff
Food wasn't to my taste
Comfortable and great place for a short stay. Food breakfast
No real coffee ( barista coffee machine)
The room was great. Clean and comfortable and spacious. Room 1. Great shower which are hard to find. The staff we saw were friendly.
They were short staffed so the wait at the bar was long. The first night eating did feel like the food was almost thrown down on the table and wasnt quite the atmosphere we had expected.
Second night was better but still a long wait for drinks, however the waitress kindly took the cost of those off the bill for us. We did notice that she had to do this for a couple of other dinner guests too. Although the food had been recommended to us by two separate friends as being really lovely, it was just average pub food so we are unable to agree with that. It was okay but we were a bit disappointed with that.
The car park was nearly full throughout our stay, but we were lucky enough to secure a spot each day. Despite the old, single-glazed windows, the room was surprisingly cosy and warm — as was the water pressure and temperature in the bathroom. After long, cold hikes, that hot shower was an absolute highlight to come back to :)
The room could have done with a bit more thorough clean — there was some dust and cobwebs 🕸️ visible.
Noise: the hand dryers from the floor below were audible, the door banged frequently in the draught, and we could also easily hear the neighbours next door.
Location and friendly staff.
Breakfast was 10 out of 10
Parking area needs to be improved
Location
Breakfast too late and terrible on second day
Excellent location, friendly professional staff, comfortable beds.

Nothing
I am writing to raise a formal complaint about our stay and, in particular, the condition of our room on arrival and the way the issue was handled the following morning.
We arrived at around 8:00 pm, exhausted and expecting a comfortable room. However, as soon as we opened the door, there was an overwhelming smell of faeces in the room. Two housekeepers, Jane and Ian, also noticed the smell, confirmed it, and immediately reported it.
We were then told that there was no other room available and that nothing could be done. Jane kindly left an air freshener, which we used overnight. Despite this, we had to stay in the room and we both woke up with headaches. Of course we left as soon as we woke up without being able to use or enter the bathroom.
The next morning, Paige, the general manager, inspected the room with a male member of staff from reception. She stated that she could not smell anything, which was extremely frustrating given what her staff experienced on our arrival. The reception staff member did not deny that there was an unpleasant smell, but said that the matter was in Paige’s hands. As an apology, he did not charge us for breakfast.
This experience fell far below an acceptable standard. I would appreciate your written response confirming what investigation was carried out and what steps will be taken to prevent a recurrence. I would also like to request appropriate compensation for being required to spend the night in a room with such an odour.
Yours sincerely,
Suzan Soliman

Room 6
The location is great. It's within walking distance from Longshaw Estate and only about a 10-minute drive from Ladybower Dam Reservoir.
The food at the pub and the breakfast was quite disappointing. The room was OK but didn't seem very clean and the bathroom felt quite claustrophobic for me being a big guy. Sound insulation was non existent as one of the two nights of our stay, we had to wait for the guests staying downstairs to turn off their TV and stop talking so we could go to sleep. We really thought the place would benefit from a renovation and some improvement of the food served.
Food was good
Service was poor. Pub is old and dirty.
Lovely place, lovely location, comfortable.
The stench of drains was overpowering in the room, even with the bathroom door closed. We couldn’t stand it and left early.
Also, noise from the other rooms can be heard clearly, eg. TV’s and conversations.
Definitely not worth £159.
Excellent staff. Food was good
Room 11 the fan in the kitchen was on and disrupted our sleep.
