The staff were a great help. The food was also great quality
The location is a bit remote, lack of other shops or restaurants
This was my third visit to this hotel, so I know it very well. The location is perfect for skiers or snowboarders, very close to the lifts, just e very short walk away. The room was large enough and cozy. The bed very comfortable. The Onsen is beautiful and very clean. The two restaurant ( Japanese and French) are good enough, breakfast is good and copious. I will go back if I will find place, but it is not easy because is almost always fully booked especially in the peak ski season.
Continue like this and your hotel will have a bright future!
This year the snow was scarse all around Japan. Actally I found a little more snow in Okushiga that in other places where I have been this year
Breakfasts and dinners included, so no hassle and no worries. Onsen after skiing, then a bit of rest and winding down in the bar/coffee lounge, and then a relaxing dinner (with some wine) everyday, making a perfect holiday. There are also piano concerts near the fireplace at night and also fireworks at NYE.
It is more expensive than other hotels in nearby resorts and the dinner menu is quite set and a little repetitive. There is no other cheaper eating out option around.
Good location, excellent food, easy to go from bed to slope. I like quiet, so location not an issue for me.
A little dated, but everything worked.
Ski in ski out, close to bus shuttle stop, good restaurants
The WI Fi does not reach the bed area well .... It gets strong near the door ....
Location was excellent, right next to ski lifts. The hotel had a public bath, restaurants, and it's own ski rental shop. The rooms were spacious and well maintained, and staffs were lovely.
the staff is nice and the rooms are cosy.
The Wi-Fi is extremely poor. I needed to get some work done but simply couldn’t.
There are no dining options nearby, the hotels around only allows their own guests to dine in the restaurants at dinner. If you don’t have a car, you’re basically stuck at the hotel in the evening (no shuttle after 6 PM). The hotel clearly takes advantage of this by imposing expensive set menus across its four restaurants for very average food. I honestly ate better food during the day in cafeterias for ¥1,200.
The bar could offer cheaper food like they do at lunch (for outsiders), but they don’t. The only affordable option is a terrible pizza. Unless you want pizza every night (which they know you won’t), you’re forced to pay for overpriced menus in their restaurants.
You have to book the hotel restaurants in advance; otherwise, you just get whatever is left. When we booked for the week, we were shown menus with certain prices. For example, I was shown a ¥6,500 teppanyaki menu, but when we arrived it was actually ¥14,000/person— with no alternative since reservations must be made in advance and you can’t switch restaurants last minute. The same happened with the raclette: the receptionist showed us a reasonable price, but we ended up paying ¥8,000 per person. One bad surprise after another — we felt trapped the whole time. The food wasn’t even good (except the teppanyaki which is excellent but overpriced).
There were also mistakes on the final bill (check it carefully). We were charged for restaurants we had cancelled. We were even charged for the day we left — we departed at 9 AM, when everything was closed except the included breakfast. How is that Even possible ?
On top of that, we were charged twice for the teppanyaki while we canceled the second time after our bad surprise with the Price. You’re supposed to sign a Bill after ordering, so it’s unclear how these errors can happen…
Imagine if we hadn’t checked the bill !
Love staying in Okushiga Kogen and the ability to ski in and out. East access to lifts and shuttle bus if needed. Big rooms with plenty of space and great staff always happy to help.
Onsite Onsen lacks a bit of atmosphere, would be great if the windows opened.
Excellent food nice size room great location ski in ski out. Staff friendly
Isolated from other hotels
It is a really great ski-in ski-out hotel ! When we stayed the weather was getting warm but the snow was still okay to ski, not really melting. Staffs are nice, helpful and efficient. Food was good at Teppanyaki, French and Japanese. However the breakfast was so so.
The only thing I dislike is the young man staff at the ski rental place, whose manner is terrible and impolite. And the locker is small so we can only store one snowboard in.
Everything especially the ski hire team
Extra cost for Tepanyaki and Raclette
