excellent value for money, great, friendly and very helpful staff!!
Lunch dinner and breakfast very good. Waitrons also excellent
Very good meals in comfortable surroundings. Lovely room.
Age of hotel is showing. Some fixtures and fittings require attention and doors that do no close.
Dinner and breakfast were both very good and the service staff in the dining room were very friendly and helpful. However, the same can't be said for the team in the coffee shop. Service was slow; the staff were surly and unhelpful. No variations to the menu were allowed - for example, a request for a toasted cheese and onion toastie was refused because the menu only offered cheese and tomato. However, when the order arrived, I asked for a few slices of onion which were promptly provided by the male waiter on duty. The supervisor was most unhelpful!
The rooms need to be updated. AT the pricepoint being asked, quaintness and authenticity just doesn't cut it these days. While keeping the ambience and integrity of public facilities such as the dining room and lounges, at the price being offered, the rooms could be provided with more updated facilities and amenities. Room 34a doesn't even meet the TGCSA 3-Star standard and who still takes a bath these days. Your market is not the youngsters that can stand and shower in a bath - so what about the older guest that battles? Showers? The bed in 34a also has loose leg and what's the aversion to double, queen or king beds about? Disappointed at what can only be described as very basic rooms.
It was a real treat to stay in a place with so much history. We were treated to a delightful dinner and the breakfast )included) was fantastic. We loved the whole experience and the Double Decker Bus tour especially.
Although keeping with the charm of that era, the room felt a bit dated.
Only one set of towels were allocated to our room. They were very apologetic the next morning, but it was an oversight.
Repairs were underway at the back of the hotel, but it seemed haphazard and quite a bit of attention is needed to restore the hotel to its full glory.
Old world charm. The whole of Matjiesfontein is kept clean and everything is well maintained. It was a relaxing stay.
Dinner and breakfast are A1+
We had the best surprise arriving at Lord Milner as we did not expect such a beautiful welcoming place with such fantastic gardens and fountains and a river to cross to access a very large beautiful swimming pool. The room was also so charming with large bathtub.
It was a different experience from the average hotel.
The shower and bath were problematic in that the bath plug got stuck. Bath hot tap kept leaking. The shower head sprayed nd messed outside of the shower. Some tiles in the bathroom were uneven and raised.
Staff lovely and friendly and grounds beautifully cared for. Meals good.
Toilet broken in our bathroom and leaked all over the floor and into the living room day one and two
Room was great. Staff were good
Welcomed by such friendly staff. Very accommodating, answering any questions we had. Amazing space to wander about in.
The food was great in the dining room and they made us a lovely packed breakfast as we checked out early which was so lovely!
Have passed through many times, awesome to finally stay.
The staff are friendly. The buss tour was the highlight of the trip.
The pictures are misleading. Showing one room with a modern bathroom, but getting the standard Hotel bathroom was just dissapointing.
The bathroom needs maintenance. Horrible plumbing when showering.
Please clean the hair out of the sink and the bath tub.
Love Matjiesfontein - 2nd visit to this hotel. Love the quirkiness of the 'bus tour! Real step back in history. I was lucky to have a beautiful huge front room on the balcony with a view to towards the railway. Funnily enough it was the same room I stayed in in 2014!
Fabulous breakfast. Lovely staff.
Nothing
Dinner and breakfast were lovely. The room was clean, with good-quality bedding and a comfortable mattrass.
I didn't really dislike anything - it was a pleasant stay. I just feel the hotel might be ready for a bit of a refresh.
Das Hotel hat „ lovely bones, but needs some tender loving care.“
Layout, privacy
Hot water supply wasn’t great
