Good hotel and staff. Great location - would stay again.
Pros:

Location! Bedroom and bathroom were large and roomy. Staff are excellent- very friendly and obliging. Breakfast was great.

Cons:

The heat was a problem. No air con - but u destined that is a grade 2 listed building so not possible. There was a fan in the room which helped and the window opened a little.

Beautiful features interesting history but..
Pros:

The staff were excellent ,friendly, polite, helpful. Happy to answer any questions and give an interesting history of the hotel. The period features of the hotel are outstanding the beautiful staircase and tiles are well preserved.

Cons:

We had room 450, at the very top ,the lift only goes part way. We were told there's a few steps but once the lift stopped at the actual 4 th floor there were more than a few steps with heavy luggage. The room itself was very plain, it was large but only one comfy chair whilst there was room for two, the small window didn't give much light, but the wall lights were blinding like search lamps there was no soffer lighting. The carpet was disgusting , it had been hoovered but the stains were many and very off-putting as we're the scruffy bed bases, but the linens were clean. The bathroom whilst old was very clean and huge.
We learnt that the very large but poorly appointed room used to be a shop as did the others on that floor I feel that that history should somehow be incorporated in the decor ( of which there was none) it would enhance the room and show the history as updating it to a modern generic room would be quite difficult with the old sloped ceiling.
The room also during this heatwave was exceptionally warm but with the fan provided and open windows it didn't affect our sleep. And the mini fridge whilst having seen better days was clean and a godsend for keeping water and milk cold .
I would stay again due to the beautiful features and the history and the staff. But those top rooms should get a history friendly make over and sort that carpet out.

Not very easy to carry lugagge from the elevator to the rooms, a lot of stairs. I understand it is an old building. The air condition at the room was out of order.

Lovely l felt safe and comfortable . Could have been a bit brighter in room, bathroom light was great and door light was
Pros:

The history of which more information would have been lovely instead of just two boring lines on the information sheet given on check in. More photos and timeline s in the lobby would be good. It’s such a beautiful building and l hope the renovation doesn’t change it too much. The beggar outside should be told to move. Water and fruit in the lobby is a good idea was much appreciated. I paid such a lot to stay booking only the night before but free access to pool would have been nice. I will stay again it was my second visit. Newcastle has some really beautiful buildings but they are being sadly neglected.

Cons:

Only paying extra for pool.
