Lovely Gothic property set in wonderful grounds

Beautiful location and building, common areas within hotel stunning. Comfortable bed. Clean and majority of staff delightful. Very good therapist. Lovely afternoon tea - incredible quiche!
Had high expectations of pool and treatment area and was diisappointed, rather dingy changing rooms, pool area small and a long way from bedrooms. One treatment room in a random room in middle of hotel with one therapist. Bedroom VERY hot, very light (curtains didn't shut properly and spotlights directly outside). Quality of food intermittent.....toast stone cold at breakfast, cafetiere dirty. Salmon supreme was delicious but again quite cold...No cake or scones available with tea/coffee in afternoon - resorted to a stale cucumber sandwich

I feel like they could use 1-2 more people running the breakfasts, and they seem to run out of things. Though maybe they were just understaffed the weekend we were there so hard hold it against them. Was a minor complaint in an overall incredibly enjoyable stay
Disappointed as looks quite large. No cosy nooks to sit and relax in or read . There was a fire in reception as you walked in but nowhere else.
The breakfast was very disappointing. buffet style which was not very good it was busy staff could not keep up so waiting for food was normal. When I asked for a menu for breakfast I was told they didn’t give them out as they were under staffed in the kitchen.when I asked why have that couple got a menu the waiter said they know the trick as they were here yesterday my response was there should be no trick.
Service was very slow and not to the standard you expect for the rating.
Building and grounds are gorgeous. Old fashioned charm. Swimming pool and spa are fabulous. Restaurant was good.
Understaffed at breakfast. they have the options of a full hot and cold buffet or cooked to order food. We took some continental and waited for our order to be taken for cooked. There was only 1 guy serving for the whole breakfast room. The guy sitting next to us had to ask 3 times for toast and it arrived about 1/2 hour later. We never had our order taken. In the end we gave up. Such a shame really, because the rest of our stay was great. The hotel did take the breakfast charge off our bill, which we appreciated.
It was steeped in history, interesting with nooks and corners in beautiful grounds. The spa was excellent and the staff were kind and helpful catering to all one’s needs
There was nothing not to like
The hotel was very picturesque and in a great location. Rooms were very nice and clean too. We upgraded to a feature room, a very nice reasonably sized room, bathroom was adequate but disappointed that it was a step in bath shower and not a dedicated shower. All staff were very friendly and professional, the waiting staff were excellent. We enjoyed the Spa and overall the Hotel enabled a relaxing break.
Although the food we tried was very nice some dishes were unavailable which was disappointing as it was not an extensive Menu. Also my last evening meal was Spiced Lentils with Asian pickles, clearly the Chef didn’t have any pickles available and served finely chopped red cabbage instead, not what I expected or paid for. I did not highlight this at the time because the pleasant staff more than made up for this disappointment.
Breakfast was excellent, emphasis on quality. Wide choice and beautifully served in a great location .

We had a beautiful 2night stay ... The venue was lovely beautiful grounds and they even have wild deer wandering freely on the grounds.
The staff were amazing and very helpful from deciding which cocktails to choose and the attention to detail was definitely on point.
We would highly recommend this hotel. We will definitely be revisiting in the near future.

We had a wonderful stay here. So much to recommend. The hotel is in a beautiful area. The breakfast choice was amazing and beautifully cooked. The staff really made the weekend. So friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.

Location, gorgeous architecture and lovely grounds. The breakfast was lovely and we enjoyed dinner. Lovely Scottish lady served us. We enjoyed using the spa facilities.
The rooms are tired and outdated as is the general feel of the rest of the interior. We didn’t let that deter us from having a wonderful stay though.
Expensive dinner and wine.
