Pretty central location, easy and not expensive to order a taxi / tuktuk via PickMe app. Price for the room was fair. The property was very clean and friendly, I felt safe living there. Nice view from the rooftop. Restaurant on the rooftop can provide you with food from morning till night.
Perfect pillows, the most convenient I ever had in hotels: not high, not low, just the right feeling. The mattress is a spring mattress, so it squeaks a bit, and shakes if the other person moves. Still it was convenient to sleep.
The size of the standard room was good enough for 2 people. It had a writing desk and a chair, and enough place to open your luggage.
The restaurant staff were friendly and caring (though there were a couple of nuisances though). There are several hospitals around, government and commercial — great if you need to solve any medical issue.
The room had strong smell of naphthalene moth balls. I couldn’t find any to remove, also the property was full, so I had no option to change room. If only that problem could be eliminated, I’d be happy to stay in this property again.
Other moments are just optional to improve:
The soundproof of the room was poor — I was hearing loud doors banging, voices, sounds of cleaning and construction works just as if it was in my room. Not a big problem for me, as I’m tolerant to this and I’m not a light sleeper, but may be problem for some people. I’d also suggest adding textile stickers to the chair legs, to make it more quiet when somebody wants to move their furniture day or night time.
About the restaurant — I lacked attention to my orders: first day we got 1 breakfast set instead of 2 sets that we ordered, so one of us left hungry. The next day we got tea instead of coffee.
The sausage and ham provided within English breakfast set were not tasty at all unfortunately. I’m okay with processed meat, but those didn’t feel to have a lot of good meat inside. I’d prefer this breakfast to cost more, but to have better quality products.
The Den 23 was a fantastic place to stay while we were in Colombo for the T20 World Cup. The facilities were immaculate as was our room and the rooftop restaurant / bar was a cool reprieve from the hot streets of Colombo with delicious food (awesome outlook to the city too). Staff were really kind and efficient, looking after us well for our stay with them.
We just stayed one night, and had everything we needed there and gave us a great start to our trip.

The staff is extremely nice and considerate and offered us free tea/coffee and a welcome drink on our first day. We also had a nice chat with the receptionist and the guys working at the Café. The hotel has a wonderful rooftop Bar/Café and the food was pretty tasty. We would definitely recommend the breakfast at this place, especially for the fantastic view and vibe!
Let's say the rooms were a little "provisionally." The light in our bathroom was broken, and there was mould on some walls. We decided to report the issues in our room, and they gave us a slightly better room without mould but still in a reduced condition. The staff was very understanding, though.
