Perfect cozy place to stay. Will definitely come back.
This is a delightful hotel in the "middle of nowhere" although it is just off a main road so easy to drive to and quiet. Our room was great and had the private balcony although it was raining so we didn't sit on it! It had a nice view but these are found all round the grounds of the hotel. The wifi was good and let us listen to Radio Caroline on their internet stream. The hotel has free parking.
Their own Tavern Meke restaurant is about 500 yards away and you can walk to it on a private grassed pathway that parallels the main road so is safe. Just head off at 45 degrees, to then parallel the main road, a short while after starting walking down the drive towards the road. We had some fine beers, the staff were wonderful and we ate a great dinner there. There is nowhere else to walk to nearby so its great that it was great!
Breakfast was very good and the lovely lady who turned up to make it was very friendly.
We were the only people staying in the hotel so had all the seating areas to ourselves both upstairs looking on the lovely gardens and downstairs in the pool room. The free coffee machine in the breakfast room was most welcome.
Although there were no staff it was easy to get into with the secret codes or whatever all sorted in advance.
This 160 year old heritage building was a school for over 120 years- began its life as a hotel in 2016 after Dinah and her husband bought and renovated it in 2014.
This hotel is superlative- tastefully decorated with incredible artifacts and books throughout the hotel
The hotel has a Billiard room, library, cozy seating areas to curl up with a book and a beautifully tended yard with lovely gardens. it is a true gem.
Our room was spacious- we had a balcony with a seating area- elegant linen bedding- bed was super comfortable- quiet at night despite being fairly close to the highway
Meke restaurant is about 750 meters away reached by a path through the woods- wonderful food, staff and location
Sumptuous breakfast with omelet, cheeses, meats, fresh veggies and fruit- delicious.
Everything was wonderful- we like to sleep with the windows open- in this case, our balcony door- mosquitoes were a problem- a screen would be nice
