Relaxing stay right on the beach
Pros:

I returned to Hotel Residencial Salema with a friend for a weekend in October 2025 having stayed there alone for 10 nights a couple of months earlier because I enjoyed the first stay so much. Salema is such a beautiful and relaxing spot and to me this hotel is a gem. The accommodation is simple, clean and comfortable and the housekeeping team do a great job. Every member of staff was polite, friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the continental buffet breakfast which was charmingly quaint and the kitchen staff kept everything topped up throughout the mornings. This really is a great place to relax and recharge and I would recommend it to solo travellers. I swam in the sea every day and enjoyed walking on the beach in the evenings. The little shops and restaurants are all within a stone's throw of the hotel. I brought my book down to the hotel bar at nighttime. Valentim, who runs the bar, is a gentleman, a total pro at his work and clearly beloved of many returning guests. When I travelled with my friend in October we visited the other bars in Salema which were very good but we had the best time in the hotel bar with some other visitors, some locals and Valentim. I fully intend making this trip a regular in my calendar.

Clean, basic hotel with great location
Pros:

The location was amazing , right in the square on the beach. The rooms had a small but nice view. The rooms were clean and simple

Cons:

The breakfast room was very warm and uncomfortable for eating. It closed at 1030. It would have been nice for the room to stay open for coffee and water during the day and also to sit and relax as there really wasn’t anywhere to sit in the room except for the bed and one chair
