We were two girlfriends (Americans) traveling together, and we stayed two nights at Casa Limonchelo. This property could not have been more perfect for us! It is about 500 years old, absolutely gorgeous, and in the heart of Morelia's historic center - so you will literally be sleeping on a UNESCO World Heritage Site! This also means the area surrounding the hotel is safe, extremely walkable, and close to everything we wanted to see and do in Morelia. The proprietor, Raúl, was genuinely one of the nicest people we had the pleasure of meeting in Mexico. We looked forward each night to coming home and chatting with him about the day's activities before heading off to our lovely and comfortable room. He was eager to communicate and generously met me where I was at with my mediocre Spanish. He gave great recommendations of places to see and eat in Morelia - including the restaurant that became one of our favorite meals of the trip (Tata Mezcalería + Cocina de Autor, right around the corner from Casa Limonchelo). The price for our two-night stay was extremely affordable and included breakfast, which was delicious (fresh fruit, fresh juice, yogurt with granola, breads and pastries with butter and jam, with the option to add on heartier items for a fee - also, Raúl surprised us with corundas, traditional Michoacán snacks similar to tamales). I would recommend this hotel without reservation!
A few things guests should be aware of when booking, even though these did not diminish our experience in any way: 1) The room was not climate-controlled and was a bit stuffy even though the nights were cool to cold while we were staying there. 2) We booked a room with a private bathroom (there are other rooms with shared bathrooms). The room was very spacious, but the bathroom and shower were tiny. 3) I would not recommend leaving the door open for any significant amount of time as we got both mosquitoes and flies in our room that absolutely covered me in bug bites!
They cancelled our reservation, midday.
When we arrived after a long journey of driving at night we had to look for a new place in a city we didnt knew.
They never called us to tell us that our reservation was canceled.
Terrible handled
Comfortable room. Quiet and peaceful atmosphere in a beautiful historic building. Everything was within easy walking distance (3-15 minutes walk, depending on the destination). Breakfast was delicious and in a cozy dining area with natural light. And good wifi. The hospitality of the owner made the stay truly wonderful--felt welcome, cared for, and at home. Highly recommend this place for its value, comfort, location, and staff.
Wish I could have stayed longer...
Raul is the host, and he takes great care of his property and his guests. We stayed here as a base in morelia. While we visited everywhere else in the state. We felt very safe and would take walks at night to discover the town which has so much to offer. The catedral is only 5 blocks away, which is nice. There are places to eat everywhere and you can walk off your meal when you get back home.
For our liking everything was great.
Beautiful and comfortable property located a few blocks from the Cathedral.
This family run business is in a 400 year old house with old Mexico charm for sure. Owner Raul was the perfect host to make me feel right at home especially with the wonderful breakfasts he prepared and served. This small family run business has a great feel to it. It is quiet and spotless. Raul takes great pride in his home and it shows. A very short walk to the Cathedral. Thank you Raul…
friendly hotel staff, delicious breakfast, good location
This hotel is more than just a hotel, it’s a beautiful family home with very comfortable cosy rooms and lovely patios to sit and enjoy a drink and snacks. Raul was so kind and helpful and his breakfasts were delicious, he had no problems preparing me wonderful vegetarian dishes. It’s location is perfect too for wandering the beautiful streets of Morelia.
Thanks again for my wonderful 10 days at Casa Limonchelo !
Cant think of anything
Raul, our host, was such a friendly helpful guy. We really enjoyed talking with him. And he made great breakfasts for us each day, generous and tasty! He made sure we got to see the Cathedral lights on Saturday night, and booked a trip for us to the Monarch butterflies too. He kindly arranged a taxi when we left, and was essentially a very thoughtful host. His house is wonderful - full of charm and character. We would love to come back and stay another time.
No complaints. Everything was perfect!
The breakfast was awesome! Fresh fruit + guava juice + coffee kept us satisfied and feeling good for hours! The staff were also exceptional... Very helpful, very accommodating, very polite and respectful, and always had bright smiles that made us feel at home.
