Akaroa is quite remote, and even on a tight budget this place still cost us NZD 180 per night. In hindsight, I really regret not checking the reviews more carefully.

The hotel is very old, and unfortunately the interior condition does not match the price or the name “hotel”. As soon as you enter, there is a strong damp and musty smell. The hallway and staircase are narrow, stuffy, and uncomfortable.

The room felt poorly maintained. The windows, bed frame, and bedside tables were dusty, with visible dirt and dead insects around the window frames. The shower fittings were clearly aged, and the hair dryer was very weak. Soundproofing was also poor — we could clearly hear people next door showering and talking.

Wi-Fi was unstable and frequently disconnected, which was disappointing. Overall, the room did not feel clean, comfortable, or worth the price compared to other accommodations we’ve stayed at in New Zealand.

Es ist alles vollkommen abgewohnt, alt und teilweise in einem desolaten Zustand

Cons:

WC mit dunklen Ablagerungen, Duschkopf absolut veraltet und verkalkt, herausgerissener alter schmutziger Teppichboden, mindestens 50 Jahre alte Fenster, die abgeblätterte Farbe haben und nicht richtig schliessen, im Zimmer hängt eine unverhältnissmässig grosses Notausgangsschild, dass in der Nacht den Raum fast taghell macht, gegenüber vom Bett ist, so dass das grelle Licht direkt ins Gesicht scheint und schlafen unmöglich macht, kein Lift, man muss dass Gepäck eine schmale, steile Treppe hinauf balancieren - erhebliche Unfallgefahr

Good sized room and location. Good budget hotel
Pros:

Good size room. Very comfortable bed. Lots of parking. Restaurant on site that did very good food.

Cons:

Balcony door not very secure - blew open in the night when we had some bad weather. No lift which meant carrying 3 big cases up the stairs. Noisy toilet fill. Hallway and stairs melt a bit musty (but the room was fine).
