The style of the hotel is traditional but modern and it was very clean.
The staff in the restaurant and bar, the shuttle bus drivers even the cleaners were all very very friendly 😊
The food was excellent; the choice of a starter and main meal for dinner, the buffet had everything you could desire for breakfast, the presentation of the food on the plate and in the buffet, all superb.
The service wasn't what I'd expect of a 4 star hotel. We would wait sometime for 30 minutes or more for our drinks order at dinner and at breakfast for a coffee.
The buffet area/room was too small for the amount of guests. To reach plates or food platters in the second row, you had to lean over the food at the front of the table. Not all guests made sure their clothes and/or hair didn't touch the food. The yoghurt at breakfast wasn't cooled.
Also, the head waiter should not be sitting at a table in the dinning room, checking and billing the drinks to the rooms, while the guests are dinning.
If you don't ski, it's not the best hotel for you. There is no fitness room or spa. The pool and sauna don't open until 3pm and a massage can also only be booked for after 3pm. You have to drive to or take a shuttle bus to the nearest town.
Location and breakfast - very good
SPA
Hotel was dated
We had a very nice stay overall and we are likely to return. The hotel is nice and old-fashioned in a positive way. The dinners and the food overall is a highlight. Also great attention and care from Antonio as the chief waiter. The bar is also very comfy and neat. The excellent shuttle service to the lifts exceeded our expectations and was very prompt and comfortable. The room was very spacious, also great to have 2 bathrooms. It was a five star touch that the beds were made upon again in the evening, with some sweets added. The skiboxes were also very good and spacious. A nice pool, although a bit dated.
As a friendly suggestion for improvement:
- cleaning in the rooms was not always dilligent. Upon arrival there was some trash left behind the curtains. Parts of the room were not vaccuum cleaned for some days.
- cosmetic paper napkins (kleenex or similar) was not available in either of the bathrooms, which is strange for a four star hotel
- the stand for luggage on the lower floor was visibly broken from day one, but still left in the room unrepaired. I would expect that once the staff finds out (must have happenned a long time ago), they either remove it or replace it.
- in the part of the room next to the windows, there was an apparent insulation issue, is this was always very cold
- it would be good to update the welcome instructions given out upon check in. When I wanted to buy the skipasses the following morning, I was wheter i made a reservation for them. Althoug no heads up was given in the intstructions upon check in to make such reservation the day before, nor were we told verbally.
- the ski resort allows to buy discounted skipassess in advance, with delivery to select hotels. I would appreciate if also this hotel participates in such option.
- while we were kindly assisted with the luggage upon arrival and the ski equipment was put separately aside by the hotel staff, I later in the evening found that equipment forgotten and covered in snow in front of the hotel...
- the hotel almost felt like "adults only", although this is not communicated this way. If this is not the aim, maybe something for the kids/teenagers could be added to the bar, e.g. table football, billiard/pool, etc.
Spa area could be larger
Very convenient for the slopes
Breakfasts and dinners were exceptional. A large selection of food and fast service. Every evening they arranged a themed evening. Excellent.
The location of the hotel was also excellent, as you could literally ski into the hotel yard (from Bec de roces 2076m).
In the morning, a van takes you to the nearby ski lift (passo campolongo), which is an excellent starting point for skiing in the Altibadia as well as the Arabba.
There was poor lighting in the room. And There are only 2 small saunas available in the spa center, which means that it is always crowded.
Lovely Hotel with exceptional staff who were very friendly and keen to please. Dinner was amazing with many courses.
I can't change the position of the hotel but when booking we thought it was in Arabba. It was actually in Campalonga which was not within walking distance of Arabba. There were just a cluster of hotels with no shops etc to browse.
Delicious food - we really didn't expect such good tastes. Very clear rooms which was important for us. Good localization. Wide range of wines to choose from. Nice SPA features like Turkish sauna. Heated ski rooms.
The coffee was completely tasteless, like powder. It didn't stimulate us at all - no matter whether we took it from the staff or from the jug on the buffet. We had to buy coffee on the slope.
The staff has problems with English and many people do not know basic phrases.
Parking lot was full when we arrived (both in front and back of the hotel) and we needed to bend over backwards to find a spot.
Hotel Grifone exceeded my expectations with its location, exceptional service and the delicious cuisine.
What enriched the experience even more was the genuine care provided by the staff members.
Overall, I'd give the hotel an absolute 10/10 rating.
amazing food, really nice staff mostly a tall man who was taking us to ski resort in mornings and a waiter at the table 211.
you can not manage temperature in room
It was an excellent experience staying at Grifone. The meals were of a very high quality, and the staff were so attentive and warm we enjoyed our stay immensely. The manager at the restaurant was incredibly warm and friendly, and made us feel very much at home. The shuttle to the ski station was incredibly efficient. The team worked tirelessly to ensure that you did not have to wait at the ski lifts for long before the next van pick up. They literally drove back and forth nonstop. All in all, a perfect experience, we will be back!
