We will stay there again on a lower floor with a walk in shower.
Pros:

The breakfast was 10/10. It was great to have kippers on the menu. The staff were very helpful

Cons:

We were on the third floor up 35 steep and narrow steps. The room was lovely. The shower was good but needed explanation of the controls.

Location was ideal, the inn looked fantastic from the outside and the breakfast was all I could wish for. As a bonus I was upgraded to a double room.

Convenient and passable
Pros:

Location and good parking, receptionist on duty at check-in was very helpful and friendly.

Cons:

Very uncomfortable bed, shower screen over the bath not in good condition, room was cold until early evening. Continental breakfast was poor, not a true breakfast all carbs and no protein or fresh fruit. Staff were not that friendly at breakfast time or on checking out.

Lovely overnight stay
Pros:

There was plenty of parking to the rear of the hotel. The staff are friendly and efficient. My room was quite small for a double (bed was pushed against the wall) but that wasn’t an issue for me as I was on my own. Perhaps the room allocation would have been different had there been two of us. Plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits provided in the room. There is quite a lot of traffic noise due to the proximity to the High Street and the music from below was quite noticeable but that wasn’t a problem during the night (they do provide earplugs). Well cooked and plentiful breakfast. The building itself is fabulous, dating back around 700 years. The outside courtyard would be a lovely place to have a drink in the summer.

Cons:

I found adjusting the shower head a bit tricky (over bath shower) so had to stand over the plug hole to get under the water but a minor thing. Some fresh fruit at breakfast would have been nice. Apart from that, all good.

A relaxing break in a characterful, period hotel in the heart of a lovely Essex town.
Pros:

We liked the ambience of the hotel, with such a rich and interesting history. The quirkiness of the beams and uneven floors and characterful bedroom, with beautiful carved wood furniture. We really appreciated the spacious en suite bathroom, with a wonderful roll-top bath and modern walk-in shower. We were glad we paid a little extra for a superior room. The duty manager/receptionist was extremely welcoming and helpful throughout. Breakfast was very tasty. The location, in the heart of the town, was great for strolling out to find somewhere to eat in the evening.

Cons:

It's really hard to find anything negative. Perhaps a little more choice at breakfast, for example a selection of fresh fruit and cheese/cold meat.

Great place to stay and experience Maldon.
Pros:

Brilliant location, really could not be better.

Cons:

I have an EV and there was no charging point. I wound up using the InstaVolt chargers 2 miles away - a bit of a pain.
