This was my first time visiting Ischia and Villa Maria in Sant'Angelo was a great boutique hotel experience. The view is exceptionally beautiful (especially at the sunset dinners), the staff is mostly family and they are friendly and accommodating, and the building has a great old school Italian vibe. It's an authentic, special place to stay. The menu was very good and thoughtfully planned with unique antipasto, primi and secondi dishes offered every night (€30 per person). In the morning, the buffet is continental with coffee service from the servers. I would recommend eating at the hotel a few nights and venturing out a few nights. The A/C was excellent after very hot days at the beach.
Nonna is the best!
This isn't a place to stay if you're looking solely to relax. It's a bit cumbersome to get to, but that's also what makes it special. If you arrive from the ferry/hydrofoil, go to Forio from Naples. A cab will cost you around €30-50 to get to Villa Maria (and more if you leave early morning.) Once you arrive, only golf carts are allowed on the hill's narrow paths and your luggage needs to be taken uphill via golf cart (we got a surprise charge for €15 for bringing it down the day we left). The walk uphill from the two nearest beaches (our favourite was Spiaggia delle Fumarole) is kind of brutal at the end of the day in the hot sun, but it's doable. You can also take a golf cart up for €4 per person (but you need to call and wait). I wouldn't recommend this particular hotel for people unable to walk up steep hills or for families with babies and toddlers (although the babies get a lot of sweet attention at the hotel :). I also wished our room had a fridge for water, beer, wine and snacks. You can use the hotel fridge, but it's not as convenient. It sounds like a lot of complaints, but my family and I had an amazing stay at Villa Maria and we would go back.
Villa
Maria é la mia casa a Sant'Angelo da 6 anni.
É tutto eccezionale.
Non vedo l'ora di ritornare.
Grazie ancora a tutta la famiglia di Villa Maria.
A presto

The staff was so lovely, they helped orgainise a celebration of a special moment for us in the most beautiful way. Amazing view from the resturant. Great location.
The hotel itself was beautiful and really charming. The view from the balcony was also a highlight. The rooms were clean.
I do want to also shout out the beach club, the staff down there were amazing, so friendly and helpful. We spent a few days down there. The food down at the beach and at the hotel was also lovely.
It was overall good, however just a couple of things to note if you are booking that would have been helpful to know.
Sadly our room was really far away from the main hotel, meaning every time we left it was a 10 min + walk (including huge hills)! If you are in anyway unfit, this would be a struggle, especially in the heat. We also arrived late, and had a random golf cart company trying to charge us €25 euro to take our bags up 2 hills to the hotel entrance (after our €50 taxi from the port). We walked them up, it was hard but it only took 2 mins to do.
There was no soap provided in the bathroom for washing your hands or in the shower. The towels also didn’t get changed throughout our week long stay.
There is no general Internet service in the hills of Ischia and wifi did not work in our rooms. Every time we wanted to use Internet we had to walk 10+ mins to get service or wifi in the main area of the hotel.
The property, view and concept with buffet breakfast and 30 euro per person for buffet dinner is great and if the family were more accommodating and hospitable, this would’ve got a 10/10 but to our disappointment, a couple family members didn’t seem as if they wanted to help with anything when we asked. Their staff are friendly and Gennaro and his wife are unbelievably friendly and helpful and were the only one we felt we could contact to ask for assistance.
The annex (5 rooms) are approximately 200m incline from the main reception/hotel and they make you pay 5 euro per piece of luggage to have your luggage transferred up, and another fee per luggage to have it transferred down despite having their own buggy. Nonetheless, the receptionist still was grumpy that we had 5 pieces of luggage despite us paying and doing the heavy lifting. The wifi doesn’t work in this area, and reception hardly works as well. The cleaning is below average, new towels everyday but the floor was only cleaned every couple of days and toiletries were not topped up without asking. You would think since everything is an additional charge (water, buffet dinner, beach club etc) that they would offer the 5 rooms located here this service of the buggy especially after my wife and I ended up in a scooter accident and could hardly walk, but instead we had the team members walk pass us and decline taking us to our room at check out to assist my wife in collecting our luggage as I had injured my leg and wrist. To be honest, my wife and I hardly ever leave bad reviews so we probably would’ve let all of the small things slide if we were offered ample assistance after the scooter accident but again, we were not offered a thing.

Such a lovely setting and atmosphere, the owners and people running it are 💕
Bed was a little squeaky!
