A disappointing stay at a potentially scenic spot
Pros:

We arrived on motorcycles, and came to grief on the final steep slippery section up to the Villa. The young lads at the Villa helped us get our bikes up and tend to our wounds. Ordinarily, there would be a superb view over the spider-web ricefields near Cancar (the reason we booked the Villa); however, the place was engulfed in mist from mid-afternoon until the following morning and we saw nothing!

Cons:

The Villa was extremely disorganised and hadn't been cleaned properly since the previous occupants (the bathroom in particular). Maintenance was poor ... a missing knob on the bathroom door, so it couldn't be closed ... no light-bulb in the bathroom (the lads changed it, but it almost immediately fused the electricity for the Villa) ... they were nice enough lads, but completely incapable of running a tourist accommodation on their own, an on-site manager is sorely needed. The evening fried rice with egg was the worst I've ever had in 20-odd years in Indonesia ... some basic cooking classes wouldn't go astray. The 2 lads were from Bajawa and knew nothing about local tourist interest (for example, we'd heard that there was a main caci ceremony in a nearby village, but they didn't know of it, nor did they attempt to find out). The place is basically very run-down, in need of maintenance and a good manager. And, of course, the road ... quite dangerous.
