Roca Mar is located on the sea front giving some great views looking out over the multi-level swimming and sun bathing areas. Loads to do in the hotel from scuba diving, lido, Golds gym, massage. activities like the scuba diving may have been an extra cost, I'm not sure as most of my activities we're outside the hotel.
I picked this hotel as I wanted somewhere quieter than Funchal and a bit more chilled out. If you did want to go to Funchal though they was a daily mini bus service run from the hotel as well as cheap reliable public transport.
The restaurant and bar area were decent too offering a wide variety of breakfast items plus it had a great terrace for enjoying drinks and food. Loads of different restaurants around Roca Mar in Canico too.
The staff were helpful and easy to communicate with.
All in all a very enjoyable stay at Roca Mar.
No major complaints. If pushed maybe the room seemed a bit dated (The hotel was like three hotels in one and I stayed in the Blue Orchid part, the Roca Mar part did look a bit more up market)
you had to rent a key for the room safe instead of a pin code safe, so you had to hide the key everyday and make sure you didn't lose it. 2.50 Euro's a day
Les terrasses et les piscines
The most beautiful aspect of this hotel is its location — truly stunning. However, when you open the door of the room, you don’t actually see the view. You need to step out onto the terrace. And the terrace is shared with several other guests, so it isn’t private.
It is extremely windy. I’m not sure if it’s just the season I came in or if it’s always like this, but it’s almost impossible to stand outside. The wind is so strong that it blows everything away — even your glasses or phone if you try to take a photo, since it’s right by the ocean.
Still, the view from the terrace is very beautiful. Although it would probably be better if there were a glass fence or windowed barrier, so you could see the ocean from inside the room. It would definitely add more value to the hotel.
The negative aspects include the strong wind and the fact that from the ground-floor rooms you cannot see the ocean at all. Only the upper floors have a proper ocean view, so guests staying on the lower level are deprived of this experience.
There is a kettle in the room, but usually you would expect tea, coffee, and sugar to be provided, especially in a hotel that is not inexpensive. Here, there was absolutely nothing — just the kettle. There were cups as well, but no coffee or tea.
Another point: towels are usually soft in hotels, but the main and most disappointing issue for me was the pillows. They are very old, filled with small pieces of cheap foam, and are extremely uncomfortable for sleeping. These definitely need to be replaced. For a hotel located on the outskirts of the city and charging this price, at least the pillows should be good quality. They are not expensive items, but they are essential, because people come here to rest — and after two or three nights with such pillows, you may even end up with headaches.
I will definitely attach photos of these pillows and a video showing how the filling gathers in the corners, leaving the middle completely empty. When you use the SPA, they give you a towel specifically for entering the SPA area. However, if you rent a room for 2–4 days or longer, you will not receive any additional towel, and there is nowhere to dry it. Since it is November now — and soon winter and spring, when the weather is cold — you need a place to dry your towel so you can use it again the next day. But they offer no such option.
If you hand the towel back because it becomes damp and starts to smell, the next one you receive must be paid for. This is very strange and really should not be the case. If you pay for the hotel and use the SPA, you should receive a fresh towel every day, or at least there should be a drying rack or some space to dry it properly.

Ontbijt en diner was matig
Indicoes no interior do hotel poderiam estar mais esclarecedoras
The pool, hot tub, souna, and Turkish hamam.
The huge size of the hotel, the buffe in the evening was not testy and expensive.
