The perfect stay: very clean, comfortable bed and pillows, quiet, easy check in/out. 100m walk from the tram stop.
Responsive host,I arrived very late, they provide self check in if you send a request.
I definitely recommend it and certainly will stay there again while next time in Cologne:)
I went with a friend for three nights over a weekend in mid June. We had a single room and a double room. The single room was £154 per night while the double was £218 per night. These prices were more than normal probably due to some high profile concerts in the city that weekend.
The hotel is in a residential area but very close to a tram stop making the city centre quite accessible.
Our rooms were cosy (i.e. small), very clean (as was the rest of the hotel) but quite sparse. We had a chair, a bed, a wardrobe, a TV and a table in the room and the bathroom had a shower, WC, basin and hair dryer. There was no fridge, no tea/coffee making facilities and no toiletries except for wall mounted soap dispensers. The bed was soft and the pillow was a big case with what seemed to be a light weight duvet stuffed in. The chair was just an occasional chair that you could sit in for a short time and far from a comfortable arm chair. The shower had a flimsy nylon curtain round it which made showering a battle with the flapping curtain being sucked in to the shower space and clinging to your body. Shower head was cheap plastic with spray going in all directions.
There are no hotel facilities. There is a lounge area with tables and chairs (for their non existent dining) which is only accessible when somebody is on reception which doesn't seem to be very often. There is no food available and no bar. If you return to the hotel with nobody on reception then your only option is to sit in your room.
Their normal price is approximately €10 cheaper than nearby hotels which I assume would have more facilities (such as dining room, breakfast, bar, room facilities etc) that you would expect in a hotel. I would describe Ariana as a hostel masquerading as a hotel and charging hotel prices.
Staff is nice to assist me but the space is really small and without any conditioner. It seems not to provide wifi and bottle water every day. If you need hot water, you have to ask the front to prepare for you.
The best sleep ever had in a hotel here.
Rooms are basic, shower is awesome, but have everything you need.
The breakfast area is nice, the usual continental food but with sausages and eggs.
Teapot tea which reception are happy to boil the kettle for you throughout the day. Also very helpful and polite and pleasant.
This is the place I will stay again when visit with niece
The hotel is really awful, not in accordance with its description. The manager is not a honest person and he even managed to involve his daughter (with special needs) during our commercial dispute.
The daughter was distressed, screaming and really grabbing us while we were discussing about the problems with our room. Basically, he was using her as a shield to avoid further discussions.
We finally leaved the hotel after only 2 nights of horror (lots of noise, lack of sleep, back pain, terrible matress, not even a ventilator in the room, windows facing a busy street with tram could not be opened, the temperature of the room around 33C, not lifts) and the manager ended up charging us for ten days, all with the good help of booking.com.
I really don't understand how the local authorities (even the touristic office of Cologne) allow this scam to go on without taking any legal actions.
Very poor room but clean, bathroom should be renovated. Breakfast ok but standard and poor quality. Service at the check in & out teriblle, vary slow and no experienced. I dont recommend this hotel, during fair we paid for room 365 € per night. Its overpriced so better book other hotel.
If you don't want to face the possibility of booking a place for a night stay but at the end not be able to get in, then AVOID booking Hotel Ariana, Period. When I booked the hotel, I saw that the reception is only open until a certain time but a special request can be made for late arrival, which I did. But to our surprise, the night we got to Cologne, the hotel was already closed and all the knocking and calling the number provided on the booking confirmation were useless. We eventually gave up and had to travel to the airport really late at night and make the best out of the airport for a few hours of rest. The hotel never send me any message prior to our arrival saying that they will not be able to accommodate for our request but the hotel people simply just left for the night and kept a group of expecting guests locked out. Even the bar by the hotel where we borrowed the phone to call said the hotel was "No Good." What makes me even more upset is that the hotel still dares to charge us for the one night fee, but we are definitely going to dispute that charge. Even if you are looking just for a quick one night stay at a budget hotel, I can't emphasize enough the fact to AVOID Hotel Ariana at all cost. Just AVOID it!!
Awful hotel !! Overpriced for absolutely no reason. Heating system didn't work, very noisy !! You won't be able to sleep at all thanks to noisy street, noise from trams, neighbors !! Govt. needs to regulate and ban such hotels !!
Just a hole! Do not book!!! If I could give them a -10, I would.
Employee did not speak proper German, breakfast was poor, plates not clean and the room just horrible. The bed was in a room without a table nor chair!
DO NOT BOOK!!!
Cancellation policy for this hotel is a joke. Manager was not willing to compromise at all and now I have ended up with a 2000 euro debt. Manager was rude and unresponsive. Even when i came back with a compromise and something that works WITHIN their 90% paymentif less than 30 days policy, the manager was unwilling. A hotel policy for such a small hotel with mixed reviews, I wonder where they feel the right to rip off customers in such a way. The best 5 star hotels have more sway- if you aren't into customer service, perhaps don't go into the hospitality business?
It is a very awful and terrible hotel. Bad service. Rooms are very smelly. You can even find some insects in the bathroom. I stayed with my family there, and the staff were very rude, they don't know how to be nice and friendly with the customers, otherwise no one would visit the hotel, or write good reviews!!
The room smelled and was not cleaned. The sink was clogged and unusable from a guest previous that had thrown up in the sink. Customer service and staff was non-existent, staff was awful and rude, barely spoke German or English. The staff blamed us for the sub-par facilities and did not let us talk to the manager or come down on the price.
Never Again!!!!!
Basic budget hotel. Clean large quiet rooms and comfortable beds, but weak to unusable wi-fi signal on the 3rd floor. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Breakfast OK and included in the price - but why do so many hotels put cornflakes in large open bowls so they go stale - what is wrong with the box ?
Stayed two nights. Room was small but well equipped and very clean. Breakfast was acceptable but the staff need training on how to look after guests. A little out of centre - taxi was 15 euros at midnight.
Would stay again.
The hotel is located quite close to the University, which was a plus for me. Even otherwise, there is an U-bahn stop close to the hotel, hence connectivity is quite good. The hotel is old, and looks like it could do with some overhauling. The staff were not particularly hospitable. They were not rude, but their behaviour could do with some improvement.
The room was small but functional and clean. The bathroom was tiny. The room lacked a proper mirror; the only one was in the tiny and cramped bathroom. The hotel had breakfast buffet which was sufficient.
Overall, I would call this an average hotel. I did not have any negative experience, but nothing positive to remember Hotel Ariana during my next visit either.
Hotel was a long way out from City centre. (30-45min walk) Tram stop is near the hotel and takes about 15mins to get in to town. Room was very small and very noisy. The hotel has managed to fit a lot of rooms in to a very small space. Room and bathroom were clean. Breakfast was not good, very basis buffet.
There is nothing of note in this hotel. They had wifi, location was convenient enough with access to the s-bahn, rooms were ok. Staff was often not around which was annoying, but I guess it is a small family-run affair. It does the job but seemed a bit overpriced (I would thought 70EUR instead of 90EUR to be honest). No character or warmth is that matters to you.
Stayed here for a weekend break, to go to Cologne christmas markets. On arrival receptionist not very welcoming made us feel that we were imposing on her. We had booked 2 rooms online and she seemed to have trouble finding our booking. Once we had booked in she then informed us that the credit card machine was not working so we had to pay in cash. Room was quite small no dressing table, mirror, tea/coffee making facilites or welcome tray. Was clean, bed ok although double bed two single duvets (one with a hole and a stain) and only one pillow each. Breakfast was ok but on both mornings they ran out of bread and were having to nip down the road to the bakers for more rolls. Being a continental breakfast would have thought that this was a vital part. Dont think we could have coped with staying here for a week. Only good thing was that the hotel is situated on a tram line so very conveniant for the centre of Cologne.
