Makwetu villas is the place to spend a vacation either as an individual, with a family or as a work group for team building while in Mombasa.
Its serenity and calmness are undoubtedly the best with that Ocean breeze from Nyali beach and air conditioned pollution free from the surrounding adjacent forest stretching up to Nyali Golf course.
Catering services and meals are topnotch..with the best chefs and attendants. customer care is great.
Thanks to Ms Eunice, the manager for her motherly love and care to our young teens and all customers, the stewards and the MD-Mr Ndichu for great Hospitality.
I booked the place via airbnb and stayed for two nights. The place is suitable for a budget traveler. Its a advertised as a serviced apartment but the service is minimal. Breakfast options are limited. kitchen closes at 5 pm. No gym or health club. There's a swimming pool though. The room is of reasonable size and looked clean and with the necessary basics. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. The general ambiance is cool away from town noises. Good for business travellers on budget.
Makwetu Villas is tucked away in a quiet and calm corner of Nyali in Mombasa. It’s quite neat the public beach too. The studios are 2 types - larger ones on ground floor and smaller ones on upper floor but with a balcony. I prefer the ground level rooms - Larger.
It can benefit from some renovation. The staff are very helpful and available. Nice place for peace and quiet.
My family and I stayed at Makwetu for four nights. Three main reasons I chose Makwetu was due to the amenities (pool, A/C, self-contained rooms and fully equipped kitchen); proximity to the beach; and the ability to accommodate a big group yet allow us to spend time together. The place met all these three needs. I liked the queen-sized beds. I especially liked the attention provided by Jeremy, Isaac and the housekeepers. Communication and customer service was good indeed, if we complained about an issue they made sure to fix it. It felt like a safe home away from home. We also requested for catering for one day and the food was good as well as the setup outside with a table and chairs for our big group.
As is expected, there is always room for improvement. One big issue was the fact that the fridges in both our villas had problems due to the faulty sockets. Second issue was the catering fee which was not very clearly explained to us from the beginning. This fee is charged per villa and not one fee for the whole group. All in all, most importantly, these two problems were resolved. I really loved the experience at Makwetu and would stay there again and also recommend others to try it out.
Gluttonous Management. I don't think they have an idea how to manage a hospitality premises.Communication was huge barrier between house keeping and clients. Looking for value for your money don't even think of this place..
We took a visit to Makwetu Villas as a group of 5 friends and it definitely exceeded our expectations. The place is very clean, with very beautiful gardens and a nice spacious private pool. The staff are very professional, especially Jeremy who was always there to check if we were okay and went the extra mile to meet any request that we had. The rooms are definitely nice as well, with well furnished wardrobes, queen size beds, air conditioning, self contained toilet and bathroom. Also we opted to Self cater for ourselves during our stay which was a great option to have; the kitchen is fully equipped with detailed items of everything you need in a kitchen setting to prepare meals. Last and final thing I found to be really great is that Makwetu is in a very ideal location. Just a few minutes walk from the villa to Nyali beach, which we found to be very clean and not as crowded with many people. I would definitely recommend that you try out the place. Its a perfect gate away home away from home indeed.
Just a few pointers I would suggest that need improvement:
1. Consider upgrading your TVs to better modern ones and expand on the channel list options too.
2. Despite the fan in the living room area, consider adding an A/C there as well, cause at times it would really get hot and the living room fan wouldn't be sufficient to reduce the heat levels.
Other than those, you guys are doing great. Keep it up!
Stayed in this Makwetu because I wanted to cook for myself. The studio offered basic amenities for this - no blender or coffee maker though. Place is clean and quiet. Access to the hotel can be problematic as it is off the route used by public vehicles. once has to call a tuktuk or taxi.
Makwetu villas sounds ideal for a good family get away especially based on the location and accessibility to most amenities , however that's the only good thing that they have to offer.
Check-in : The staff and manager were not prepared at all when we arrived. They did not seem to have the details yet we had booked and paid mid July. We had booked 2 apartments and only one was ready, however it had water leaking from the bath pipes into the corridor.
Staff: The staff were very unpleasant , borderline rude. Especially the duty manager as even as late as 6 pm (Check-in starts at noon ) one apartment wasn't ready and the team were unapologetic.
Rooms and General state: The facilities available in the serviced apartments are far from ideal. In one apartment only 2 cooking pots available, some of the equipment such as fridges , fans, air-conditioners in the rooms were not working ideally. One room did not have any mosquito nets. The wi-fi available only works in areas closet to the reception
Check out: Once again the staff were not polite, they came to the apartment asking us to leave an hour before check out.
I would not recommend it for anyone and it was definitely not value for money.
Absolutely wonderful and small place for a quiet and refreshing getaway at a fair price. Excellent for families, friends and couples looking to self cater and bond with each other in their own unique way (I recommend you carry your own fun and games ideas or activities), or any individual who wants some alone time to rejuvenate, meditate or simply bask in coastal delight while reading a book. Located in a secure and serene location quite close to Nyali beach and a short distance to the shopping malls. All the staff are friendly and professional ensuring a comfortable stay and the chef is always at hand to work up a delicious fresh meal. Definitely a place to visit again and again.
A great place to relax with family. The kids had an amazing time at the pool and running around on the grounds. Susan was very welcoming even with our last minute booking, and we cannot thank Chef Martin enough for the meals including the special breakfast we had requested.
It was our 3rd time in one year to visit Makwetu and we are looking forward to going back there already!!!
This is Fourth Time , I am staying in Makwetu Resort ...I stayed for Long duration sometimes one month and even two month . Everytime I come get better service then before

Its home away from Hope
I give Makwetu 10/10 and looking forward to stay again during my next visit to Mombasa
I put up at Makwetu for a week recently and all I have is good news, a perfect location for business and relaxation at the same time. The place is perfectly clean and the staff very courteous , beautiful grounds and clean swimming pool. We felt very much at home and cant wait to get there again.
Mureithi.
I and my family have stayed at Makwetu Resorts in Mombasa twice in the recent past. This is definately "a home away from home". The place in neat with very friendly staff. I liked the available self catering facilities and the fact that one can hire cooks. I beautiful cosy place to say.
A homely and friendly place for those with young families and those who prefer the informality of self catering holidays. The lawn around the swimming pool is a great place to spend a lazy relaxing day and for the avid golfer, there is a golf course a 2 minute drive away that shares a fence with Makwetu!!
My general experience with Mombasa town is that it can get really hot and mosquito infested, but at Makwetu with the beach a short walking distance away, you constantly feel the refreshing sea breeze. It's very unlike a hotel where it feels like there are thousands of people walking in and out. Makwetu was nice, clean, quiet and with a friendly staff and awesome chef (for the days I didn't want to cook) I felt right at home.
I visited Makwetu and its one of the most unspoilt hotels in Mombasa. Not too crowded, the gardens are wonderful, the pool and the staff very nice. The newly constructed studio apartments are just great. Nice finishing and would recommend anyone going to Mombasa - Kenya to use them. They are self catering but all through when i stayed there, the hotel chef made my meals and i did not struggle cooking for my self. I loved the attitude of the owner and the staff. very courteous! Best for short and long stay in Mombasa since they have monthly rates.
I stayed in Makwetu resort for a few days and the place is really beautiful! The swimmingpool is perfect to swim and relax and it lies in a beautiful garden. The appartments are very clean and the food is nice. You also have your own kitchen if you like to cook for yourself.
The staff is very friendly and does everything you ask them with a smile on their face. Also the managment are very friendly people.
I celibrated Newyear's eve here and had so much fun laughing, dancing and singing! 2013 started really good like this :)
Makwetu is in Nyali beach and only 10min away from the center of Mombasa. The beach is only a stonthrow away. Also there is a very good supermarket and a few ATM's nearby so the location is perfect!
I would certainly recommend Makwetu resort, I will come back here!!
It's now three days since I left with my friends from Makwetu Resort .Its been hard geting back to the normal routine of working but not regretful since we enjoyed ourselves to the maximum. On 20th March on Thursday we left the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi headed to Moi International Airport , Mombasa at 11.30p.m. The flight was delayed by 45 minutes since they were fuelling but the Kenya Airways gave us the best flight. On reaching Mombasa a friend picked up who was tipsy but managed to drive us to Kendas Arcade. It was not the best place to be and the service not all that in but we had to stay one night since we had booked at Makwetu Resort on Friday. Kendas should get a generator we stayed there when power was out and it was terrible. Imagine all the heat we had to endure. On Friday we headed to makwetu and the place was stunningly beautiful. The way it appears on the website is the way it is. The apartments and the pool are exactly the same as they appear on the website. What I can say at this point is if you want to relax and catch up with friends, family and your Love well this is the place to be. We enjoyed ourselves and thee is Nyali beach which is a stonethrow away. The staff are great. Food is fantactic that is snacks. Ther is a kitchen to also make your meals if interested. This was one of the best and I am certainly going back.
