The place inside looks pretty. Stylish furniture and a beautiful outdoors bathroom. The bed was comfy.
No hot water. It was very uncomfortable to take shower as the water was just slightly warm most of the time. It's not so hot in the night in Sri Lanka, so taking a cool shower when the sun sets – definitely not cool. I'd expect you get hot water by default at any hotel?
Laundry service was also pricy even for a tiny amount of clothes.

Ubicación entre la vía del tren y una sierra de madera, pasillo largo oscuro por la noche hasta llegar al establecimiento. Habitaciones individuales sin aire acondicionado, solo ventilador de techo hace calor.
Las instalaciones son súper bonitas, habitaciones hechas con mucho gusto y un baño precioso. Buena ubicación, cerca del mar y del pueblo.
Difícil descansar bien por el ruido del tren que pasa justo delante y en nuestro caso, el perro estuvo ladrando todas las noches justo delante de nuestra habitación.
Por otro lado, la chica que gestiona las reservas no está a la altura del establecimiento. El primer día nada más llegar, sin quitarnos las mochilas ya nos estaba picando a la puerta con el datáfono en mano para que pagaremos toda nuestra estancia cuando íbamos a estar 3 noches. Después de viajar más de 10 días por la país, es la primera mala experiencia que tenemos con una persona local que gestiona alojamientos. No sabe tratar a los clientes y cada día, nos preguntaba que cuando le íbamos a pagar…nos hizo sentir unos morosos desde el primer día que llegamos y nos puso en una situación un poco incómoda. En todos los alojamientos hemos pagado al hacer el check out (más cuando íbamos a estar 3 noches) y nunca hemos tenido ningún problema.

The rooms and property is rustic and aesthetic, very simple with a clean, pleasing design. There’s a nice cafe and restaurant too
While rustic, some of the facilities weren’t fully working or just in some disrepair. I was in a small room which was fine but didn’t feel like great value for money, and it got quite hot even with the fan. I think mosquito nets, which are widely used in Sri Lanka, would be quite welcome so that the doors can stay open at night.
Kristina was an amazing and helpful host. She assisted us with bikes and recommended great breakfast spots nearby. She promptly addressed any requests and even helped extend our stay. Overall, a perfect experience!
Cristina is an amazing host and was kind, attentive, and responsive. Her place is beautiful and the food incredible. There were some minor inconveniences that came with rainy season and she checked in so much and made sure I was cared for and supported. If you want a holiday stay that feels like home away from home highly recommend <3
We absolutely loved our stay at Maria Bonita! The room was super cozy and stylish, with a nice bohemian vibe that made it feel really special. The bathroom was super clean and had an actual shower with a glass door—something that’s pretty rare to find in Ahangama. The location is perfect too—just a minute’s walk to the Marshmallow surf spot, which was so convenient. The owner is the sweetest person ever—so kind and helpful. She even let us have a late check-out, which made everything so much easier. Honestly, we’d come back in a heartbeat!
Absolutely lovely accommodation, interior design well thought through- simple yet very stylish + great attention to details. The present location is great, close to the seashore and all great cafes and restaurants, but not loud. It's surrounded by greenery and fab waves crashing. Ultimate relaxing spot. The host is very accommodating and helpful, despite the low season, and late hour she came to town to open the room for me when my original booking fell through. She was always ready to help with advice or suggestion. Highly recommended!
