Close to a good restaurant
Very noise, no hot water
Good location to wander the town and visit the local pub, cafes. Excellent breakfast! Room size good, could sit on front balcony and look over the town.
Minor, but the climb to the cabin (steep steps, maybe 20) is a little steep. Fine if you’re fit, but not good if your mobility is limited.
We knew there were stairs, don't be fooled, it's a climb, not just stairs.
To avoid them you can go on a dirt road with the car, but it's not easy, and you still need to do the climb to get to the restaurant.
The location of Moni Mahalika is in the center of Moni, convenient to many restaurants, but one should try the in-house Moon Cafe, where we ate breakfast as well as several meals. Owner Cipriano and his wife Yuni are a welcoming couple and Yuni prepares great food. We found the Balado Aubergine, the corn fried, the soto ayam and the fried chicken to all be excellent. The two rooms are perched on the hillside behind the restaurant and offer great views of the valley below. Our room was clean, including a single and a queen size beds, fan, hot shower. There are some steps to climb to get from the restaurant below, but the view is worth it as is the quiet. We later arranged for Cipriano's brother Johan to drive us from Moni to Riung, which went very smoothly. Johan is a very careful driver and offered to stop at several locations along the way for photos. Nothing but accolades for this place. Recommended for those who visit Moni.
As mentioned, there are stairs to climb to reach the rooms, but we found this only to be a minor inconvenience.
Comfortable and large room, fan is very nice to circulate air at night, good mosquito net, good location, good breakfast (bad coffee though), helpful information about Kelimutu.
The amenities listed with the room are misleading and false advertising. There is no sauna, or fireplace, and there is no shampoo, among most of the other things listed.
The WiFi only works in the dining area — if it works at all. Best to update this listing and remove WiFi (along with the other amenities not provided) if it is not going to work all the time. (It was out at breakfast.)
Google Maps takes you down a bad road to the back of the property. Stay on the main road and park in the front unless you are comfortable driving on the road.
Comfortable room. Large verandah.
Poor breakfast. Only star fruit offered and unpleasant omelette. Then, dinner I had was inedible. I ate elsewhere after that.
Very steep climb to the room. First steps then and at the time a boggy field then more steep steps. Not ideal.
Best place to sleep and eat, the dinner was amazing and good recommandations from our host.
Music in the restaurant was good
Perfect place to go and enjoy the kelimutu
Best views, nice breakfast, room clean and spacious
Nothing
We had a great stay. We came here to see Kelimutu lakes and made a bet with this accommodation considering that there are quite many offers around. We stayed two nights trying to find a good interval to see the lakes(it was the rainy seasons and obviously rainy and very cloudy).
The room(actually a bungalow), is big, offering all the comfort needed. The bed also very comfortable and the view is the best in the village.
Honestly it's hard to find a better one.
We also liked the breakfast fruits, but we would have exchanged the pancakes with eggs if possible.
This is not the location problem, but the entire village. Electricity comes and goes, and with it also the phone signal and hot water.. Usually more chaotic during the day but constant at night time, but in a way was nice to be off the grid for a couple of days :).
Great place with a nice view. The room is set on a little hill, it is really calm and the room is spacious and has everything you need, including a little balcony. There is a little cafe/restaurant with good and not expensive food. The staff/family was super nice and friendly.
If you use google maps to find it, you might end up behind the building where the two rooms are. For me that was perfect since I didn't have to bring my backpack up the steep hill/stairs leading up to it from the main road :D
The shower wasn't warm and there was very little water coming.
Host helped in every way to ensure we enjoyed our stay and were comfortable while staying with them.
The room was big and had a nice view. The price is good and the position of the room was perfect.
However, the room was absolutely not clean. The toilet paper had not been refilled, and the soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower were empty. Additionally, the drain was blocked, and we ended up with a bathroom full of water for quite a while every time we took a shower. There were cups and a water kettle, but no tea or coffee, so what’s the point of having them?
But the worst part was that when we arrived - it was dark and raining - we couldn't find the house. We where with the motorbikes and Google Maps took us to a small road above the house. There was nobody around, and there was no sign indicating where it was. I tried to call them, but nobody answered; worse, they disconnected the call. In the end, we thought, it has to be this way, so we went down the stairs to see if there was someone at the house.
There they were acting normally. When I asked them if it was their number, he said yes, but that it wasn't working. This is not true; then they dismissed me. Also, if it would be true, there should be a valid number on the booking!
He asks if we want dinner but we ate already and so one of the staff showed us to our room.
The next morning, we went to the Kelimutu and came back to collect our bags. It was then that the boss called us from downstairs and asked if we wanted to have breakfast, which would be included. We actually didn’t want to, but he insisted, so we agreed. When we went down, he was surprised and said, 'I thought you didn’t want to have breakfast.' We told him that he had insisted so much that we finally said yes.
He reacted unfriendly and said something like well now it is to late I can prepare some fruits for you, even though it was 2 minutes after he proposed us.
Very mean character. I recommend you skip this place.
wifi was not great but the room was so big and clean. lovely views and the hosts were very nice
Cheap stay in Moni, could rent motorbike on site. The room and the bathroom were clean and spacious. You have a very nice view from the balcony. The restaurant is very good, but the owner is despicable.
The rooms or located at the top of a hill. If you have backpacks it is ok, but I wouldn’t try with luggages.
The owner of the property has a really bad temper.
We said we would tour around and to see where we would go for dinner, he was really disappointed that we would not choose his restaurant first and he didn’t hide it. We arranged for a scooter, but it looked like it bothered him.
Breakfast was included in the booking, yet he said it was not the case. After checking we asked to have it but he wanted to leave so he said that we should have arrived 30 min before (it was 8:30) because there was no staff today and no time for him to do it. He gave us bananas as a quick solution. When we left the property, we saw member of the staff at the restaurant.
Spacious room with everything you need. There’s also a restaurant on-site serving great Indonesian food. The host was super friendly and gave us helpful tips for visiting Kelimutu and planning the next steps of our trip in Flores.
The balcony was a great place to sit. The location was nice, right next to mopis place.
The breakfast was not good. The water did not work multiple times. The room was quite warm. The musquito net did not close properly.
This is the place to stay in Moni!
Room was good, bigger than the average. Good location as well, walking distance from the waterfalls and the main road
I give 3 stars because although the room was good I had a very bad experience with the host. The host was very rude with us after I told him that we already had transport to the Kelimutu Vulcano and that we had dinner in the nearby cafe. We had a 10 hour trip with no stops we were starving when we arrived in Moni, so we stopped to eat on our way to the lodge. The cafe owner approached us and offered to arrange transport to Kelimutu and we decided to accept. After eating and relaxing at the bar we went to the lodge which I've booked and paid in advance through Booking.com. The owner starts the questionnaire as her wife went with my friend to the room. After telling him that we already had dinner and transport to Kelimutu the owner starts yelling at me saying we didn't want us there because we decided to eat and book transport with others. And saying that we had lowered the rate of the room because he needed the transport income. This doesn't make sense as I booked the room that was advertised and he cannot assume that I would do the tour or transport with him. I believe he was frustrated but that doesn't give him the right to treat his guests that way when things don't go as he expects.
