Lovely place with amazing hosts.
The location is stunning. Every room has an amazing view. Can watch whales from shore! So peaceful.
Visitors need to be prepared for a bag toilet, limited water and challenges with hot water. The proprietor lives a half hour boat ride away so scheduling excursions can be a challenge and the excursions are very expensive with no safety protocol. You have to pay to get to the hotel.
Was perfectly located near the inlet and had view of the water. We hung out on the porch in chairs after our hike to Oqaatsut.
There's not really anything we didn't like. Based on the surroundings, it doesn't get better than this! Ole was very accomodating and everythin was just as promised.
Great value for money, Saw 2 times whales and didn't have to pay for a whale safari :). Ole is a great host. Due to the nature of this place (remotness and affordable price) you are likely to meet other interesting travellers.
braeakefast was good
the view was excellent
general service was good
bathroom/toillet
often noisy dogs
This was a great adventure for us. We knew not to expect a 5 star stay while staying in a settlement of 45 people. Fortunately for us we were the only guests at the Hotel. We spent some quality time with Ole who explained the workings of the settlement. We arrived late in the season so the restaurant was closed but the shop had adequate supplies if you wanted to cook for yourself. We ate meals at the hotel. Ole caught a cod and a seal that he cooked up for our dinner. An experience we won’t forget. Breakfast was good with cereal, breads, meats and cheese. Plenty of coffee and juice. Our bedroom was large and warm. The bathroom was small and has a dry toilet which we know as a drop toilet when hiking in Australia. There are some wonderful views, walks and we saw some great icebergs. Ole’s communication was excellent. We’d planned to hike to Oqaatsut from Ilulissat however a huge dump of snow stopped us so Ole organized a boat to taxi us to Oqaatsut. Much appreciated.
Nothing.
Very nice family run place, you can see whales in the bay from the dining room. Breakfast very solid, cooked by the owner lady, she also offers lunch/dinner upon request, we tasted their lamb stew with cabbage and was excellent. Definitely recommend. The rooms are clean, comfortable, beautiful views. Hikes around also amazing. Definitely recommend.
You are dependent on the owner to transfer you to/from Ilulissat by his boat. Firstly, it's expensive (400dkk pp one way) and second, he is not very reliable. We agreed in writing on the return time and he did not remember it, offered something completely different and inconvenient. Eventually, he did find an alternative that fit, but the uncertainty was stressful. Also,we booked and confirmed an experience, he also confirmed in writing but yet again, did not happen.
The place, location, hospitality, food, everything is excellent. But the owner not very reliable.
Location was fantastic, quiet and right in the small settlement. The ablity to soak in the local life was a huge plus.
Nothing at all.
The best location in Greenland! You can experience a true Greenlandic village life, starting with a boat transfer (seeing whales and icebergs on the way). Fantastic view from the window, fully equipt kitchen, shop nearby (closes at midday),
The communication with the owner could have been a bit better (before arrival)
