An attractive Inn with good food, the bedroom was small but had everything I needed.
Far to many emails sent to me before my arrival
Very helpful staff, allowed us to check in early as we had a funeral to attend and could then get changed in our room. Good size car park, no problem parking. Nice bar area and good choice of meals. Room was spacious with a comfortable bed.
The only suggestion I have is that it would have been nice if there had been cereal and toast and marmalade or croissants available at breakfast. The cooked options were very nice but there was nothing else.
The room was lovely, the bed was lovely. The mattress was on the firmer side but this was good for me and my partner. The radiator was efficient and warmed up our chilly bones nicely. The bathroom had steps down into it in our room so it felt like a separate room, had a heated towel rail, was decorated nicely and had a good working toilet. Generous sized working TV in the room. Also had a hanging rail to put items that may crease, but it didn't include any drawers or a wardrobe.
My only criticism was the bathroom was quite chilly even with the heated towel rail, and the bath didn't drain efficiently. The main lighting in the bedroom was also a little dim, could have a better light. But these are quite minor things.
Rooms nicely decorated and clean
The room was pretty cold
Great location near NEC and good price
The bar area was cold which was a shame
The quirky decor .
Friendly atmosphere.
The lighting in the room wasn’t bright enough.
The shower overflowed into the bathroom and wet the floor leaving it slippery
What I liked:
- beautiful old building from the 1600s, had a lot of character and charm
- above a pub (didn’t get to try the food sadly)
- beautiful and charming location
- spacious room
- WiFi met my work needs
- Comfy bed and large desk
Cons:
- construction sawdust and shavings on the bathroom floor and inside the shower
- room partner’s keyfob didn’t work, had to waste time getting that sorted
- No phone in the room so you have to go all the way down to the pub to get things sorted
- tried to shower, there was no hot water. Had to get out to again, go downstairs to try and get it sorted. Hot water was available after 30 minutes and I was late for work.
- no proper lights in the room, only a few lamps, but only one lamp worked. Half the lights in the room, including the bathroom didn’t work. Ladies, you cannot do your make up in this room or bathroom!
The WORST thing which made me regret booking this room and earnt this rating:
I stayed for 3 nights and 4 days. Without fail, every single morning, whoever opened the pub downstairs tripped the security alarm at least once. The first alarm was at 6am on Friday morning. This isn’t just a quiet beep, this is a full-on, ear-piercingly loud security alarm that had my adrenaline running for over an hour. The next day and day after, it happened every morning multiple times. It completely ruined my sleep and my entire day and this one thing made me regret spending almost £300 on this hotel for the weekend.
The lady who checked us in was so polite and friendly.
Fantastic rooms, good value breakfast 👌
£13.95 for a pint of Aspalls cider!
