Pros:

There are grander hotels in Switzerland. There are newer hotels, more luxurious hotels, and certainly hotels with private bathrooms.

Yet somehow I keep coming back to Gasthaus Waldhaus.

Perched in a quiet alpine valley surrounded by waterfalls and impossibly green mountains, this is the sort of place that reminds you that character matters more than luxury. The rooms are simple, traditional and spotlessly clean. Yes, the bathrooms are shared, but they are immaculate, and the beds are wonderfully comfortable. Most importantly, it's peaceful. Truly peaceful.

After a long day riding through the Alps, that peace feels priceless.

The restaurant downstairs remains one of my favourite reasons to visit. The long-serving chef may be retiring, but I'm pleased to report that the kitchen appears to be in very capable hands. My annual schnitzel pilgrimage was rewarded exactly as hoped: a cold beer, a perfectly cooked schnitzel, and the satisfaction of finding that some traditions are worth preserving.

What I love most is the atmosphere. Families feel welcome. Solo travellers feel at home. Nobody seems to be in a hurry. The mountains provide the scenery and the village provides the calm.

I'm almost reluctant to write this review because places like this are becoming rare.

Not because it's perfect.

Because every time I leave, I already know I'll be back.

Nur zum Übernachten ok, ohne grosse Wünsche oder Erwartungen
Pros:

Die Unterkunft ist gleich neben der Bergbahn. Das Restaurant lebt vor allem von Tagesgäste, dadurch ist ab 21:00 Uhr ruhig und das Restaurant geschlossen.
Personal weitgehend freundlich, zT nicht deutsch sprechend, wer sprachen kann, hat definitiv einen plus Punkt.
Die Zimmer sind sehr einfach, ähnlich wie eine Jugendherberge! Bettwäsche vorhanden, sowie Frottierwäsche.
Shampoo muss mitgebracht werden!

Cons:

Die Zimmer sind vermutlich sehr sanierungsbedürftig. Sehr dünnes Holz, z.T ziemliche Löcher, der Boden knarrt und arbeitet, wir hörten das Schnarchen vom Nachbarzimmer und wenn die im oberen Stock nach unten auf das WC mussten, war mein Puls bei 180, da ich dachte es stehe jemand neben meinem Bett!
Ohrstöpsel oder Schlaftabletten fast ein muss!
Achtung nicht Rollstuhl gerecht.
Zudem 1 kleine Dusche für alle Zimmer und 2 WC.
Für 170.- für ein Doppelzimmer mit Frühstück preislich obere Grenze.
Frühstück wird am Tisch serviert, kein Büffet, sehr einfach gehalten, schmeckte jedoch gut.

Charmant und akustisch lebhaft.
Pros:

Das Hotel Waldhaus hat insgesamt einen sehr stimmigen Eindruck hinterlassen. Besonders positiv fällt die ruhige Lage auf, die trotzdem eine bequeme Weiterfahrt in alle Richtungen ermöglicht. Das Haus wirkt gepflegt, mit einer soliden Ausstattung und einem reibungslosen Ablauf beim Check‑in und Check‑out.

Cons:

Das alte Haus von Rocky Docky hat seinen eigenen Charme, aber die knarrenden Fussböden sind tatsächlich ein Thema. Romantisch, ja - allerdings weniger für den Zimmergenossen, wenn man nachts kurz raus muss. Es ist hörbar, aber letztlich nicht wirklich störend, eher ein Teil des historischen Ambientes.

Es war eine absolute Katastrophe, nie wieder!

Die Lage ist gut.

Cons:

Das Personal ist aggressiv und beleidigt die Gäste, zudem ist das ganze Haus schmuddelig, schmutzig und stinkt nach Urin. Es ist nicht auszuhalten, zumal die türkischen Wirte sehr respektlos sind.

Pros:

Die Lage des Hotels ist optimal als Ausgangspunkt für ins Wandergebiet. Das Hotel ist sehr ruhig gelegen und sehr sauber. Das Personal war durchwegs überaus freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Essen tipptopp.

Cons:

Es ist ein altes Gebäude, von dem her ringhörig, aber für uns kein Problem.

Authentique et accueillant
Pros:

Un très bel hôtel avec beaucoup de charme ! Le personnel et le gérant sont adorables et aux petits soins. La chambre était confortable, et nous avons beaucoup apprécié l’authenticité des lieux.

L’hôtel est au départ de nombreuse randonnées!
