This hotel is superbly located and parking is excellent. The gardens are amazing.
Such a shame that there are very bright and cold white LED lights practically EVERYWHERE!!! The ambiance of the hotel would be TRANSFORMED if softer warmer bulbs were used instead - it would take the whole place to another level much more in keeping with the age and beauty of the architecture of this superb hotel. And at no extra cost!!!
I suspect the bright green wall in the breakfast room might even look slightly better in warmer lighting!
A superb stay, this was a very special anniversary treat for the two of us, couldn't have been better. The buildings & gardens are 'old lovely', the room was spacious & very comfortable. Dinner in the Oak restaurant & the service was excellent, fine dining.
A perfect choice of breakfast & a very reasonable check out time just polished the whole experience off, well done The George of Stamford.
Service and ambience

Everything, this history, the staff, the room….. everything
Only very slight niggle, no tea and coffee in the room, you have to use room service for that. Dont let it put you off though.

The hotel, food and especially the staff, so nice.
I had stayed at the George the previous week and have to say everything was perfect
This last stay wasn’t quite as perfect as my first stay. The room didn’t feel quite as comfortable. There was an iron mark on the carpet and the room felt a little dark and out of the way . I guess I was spoilt with my first visit .
Beautiful building, perfect location
Room was lovely but a little tired re carpets, not to say it wasn't a fantastic experience, because it was
The staff and the quality of the rooms.
I thought having a restaurant that you couldn't eat in unless you wore a jacket rather outdated and quaint.
I was happy to eat in the second restaurant but if I had been entertaining guests I could have been very annoyed. At least the rules were well posted before I arrived.
I’m familiar with the hotel and the location and staff are always very good
We were allocated room 3, and the smell was bad enough to make you gag. It smelled like a dozen wet labradors had stayed there for a month! I should have asked for a room change, but I was on a tight schedule for a dinner appointment, so opted to put up with it. The windows were closed and there was no air freshener in the room. Anybody who simply entered the room would have noticed the acrid smell, and the room should not have been in use till the smell had been dealt with. And at £265 for the one night, I thought this was appalling and ruined my visit.
Location, ambience, garden room dining
No lift, no tea making facilities
No duvet just sheet & blanket, very uncomfortable
Bath a different colour to loo & sink
Lovely staff and Hotel with an excellent bar and dinner. Rooms are first class by international standards. We would love to visit in summer when it must be even nicer (we stayed in February).
Breakfast was served with delicious eggs which must have been specially bought (better than we get anywhere in London) but unfortunately bacon was not delivered to either of us despite us ordering it. This oversight left me a bit grumpy but was an understandable error in a busy restaurant in the morning.
The reception desk gets crowded and is very small. I am not sure how one can improve on this in a listed building but it was quite stressful being jammed up against a large man to my left as I tried to pay my bill.
Lovely hotel and charming, professional, staff.
Mycket bra boende, centralt i Stamford. Trevlig traditionell brittisk atmosfär och riktigt bra mat. Kockarna ska ha en eloge!
